Wearing a sparkly black cocktail dress to a morning/afternoon wedding?

Cindy, on October 10, 2010 at 8:44 AM Posted in Planning 0 16

Is that acceptable or weird? It's kinda all I have. It's a co-workers wedding and the purple/maroon dress I was planning on wearing is uh...a little boob-a-licious. So I feel more comfortable in this one in front of my boss and other co-workers. But it's a morning and afternoon reception at a restaurant. Is it too much then?

My honest opinion is to steer away from black for a morning/afternoon wedding, but if your not comfortable with the other dress then go for it.

I understand why you're uncomfortable with the purple/maroon dress, but the sparkly, cocktail dress (no matter what the color) isn't appropriate for a morning wedding/early afternoon reception. I'm sorry. Do you have anything else to wear?

Do you have a scarf you could drape with the maroon boobalicious dress?

Why don't you wear the maroon one with a cardigan over it? I wore a strapless dress for a wedding and ended up wearing a cardigan the whole night. It didn't look any less nice.

Or put a camisole under the maroon one? Anything sparkly/cocktail is going to be inappropriate Smiley sad

Scarf draping is a good idea--it can look very elegant. I do that a lot when I'm teaching and feel like my top is too boobalicious. :p

Fwiw, I see nothing wrong with wearing black to weddings, but a cocktail dress really isn't appropriate for a morning/afternoon event.

I would say no. I would really be opposed to a black dress for morning/afternoon if it werent sparkly and were a more casual material....but since its sparkly, it needs to stay strictly in the evening attire category.

Do you have any nice skirt/top options?

No to the sparkly black cocktail dress. Would it look appropriate to have a scarf with the maroon one, or would it not go with the style of the dress? Would have to see a picture. If not, maybe you could go to a consignment shop or sales rack for an alternative dress.

Why don't you wear some very nice slacks and a wedding appropriate top? No one ever said you couldn't wear pants to a wedding.

I'm going to a wedding this weekend that begins at 10 AM at the church, then the reception is from 12-4 at a restaurant. What should I wear?? I was going to wear this dress in the photo with a sweater or wrap thing, but then I realized I have to attend the rehearsal dinner (DH is a GM) on Friday night so maybe I should wear the dress to that instead. ??
