we found a Venue!!!! But...

Lex, on June 14, 2019 at 1:33 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 34
They don’t have our date available! They just booked it yesterday (screaming a little because we’ve been trying to get a hold of them for weeks) but they have the Friday and Sunday available. We have people flying in on Friday so I’m leaning more towards Sunday, but what do you think? It’s a 3 day weekend so I’m not super concerned about everyone going to work. Would a Sunday morning wedding work? Or could we do it in the afternoon still?
Best part, it’s only $300! I’m over the moon!

Are any of those people flying back out on Sunday? Are your other vendors available to change the date?

You probably shouldn't have had anyone book travel for a wedding before a venue is booked, but that's something you'll have to work around now. Since it's Labor Day weekend, I think you'd be fine to have your wedding on that Sunday at any time, as long as your guests aren't planning to leave that day though.

If people are already booking flights for Friday, a Friday wedding will probably be hard between travelling and possible delays. As a guest, I'd probably prefer Sunday morning/early afternoon so I could fly home Sunday evening or early Monday.

Have you considered a Sunday "brunch" theme? Tons of savings on pre batched cocktails ( mimosas and sangrias) food could be more bites and nibbles versus a plated full out service.... like chicken and waffle bits and fruits and pastries and donuts.... sausage balls... snacking stations. Maybe start at 10am? That could be a ton of fun and some cost savings...

I am doing a Sunday wedding on Columbus Day weekend. A lot of my guests are flying in Friday and I did the hotel block up until Monday. My wedding starts at 5pm and ends at 11pm. If it wasn't a holiday I would have gone with an afternoon wedding.

I think Sundays work fine! People may be tired for Monday but if it is a three day weekend it should be ok

We had a venue, but it fell thru, that’s why people already had flights booked.

Do you really want to work with a venue that you can’t get ahold of for weeks? I would say get out now while you still can!

We had a Sunday wedding, our ceremony started at noon and reception ended at 5. It was great! Not a single person complained about it being on a Sunday... especially because it ended so early. We even had a few OOT friends who flew back home Sunday night and were at work on Monday morning.

Also having Saturday to get last minute things in order, rehearse, and spend time with family and friends before the wedding was great. I would absolutely recommend Smiley smile We actually had a choice of which day and we deliberately chose Sunday.

Especially because yours is a 3 day weekend I would actually think Sunday would be way better than Saturday! This way you have Saturday to get ready and get things in order and then Monday to recover.

I'd check with your VIPs and those you know have booked flights already, to see when they are flying back out. That could help you set an early enough time on Sunday

Is this for your ceremony only, or for ceremony and reception?

That's awesome for $300! Congrats on that steal but that sucks about your previous venue falling through. I was in the same predicament. We live in Las Vegas but our wedding will be in California. It's about 50/50 for those here in Vegas we're inviting and my family who are mostly already in CA so it's not too much of a traveling hassle. We didn't want to do a Friday only because we know for the most part people would still be working. We didn't qualify for our venue's "minimum spent" for a Saturday so we decided to do a Sunday but it will be from 11am - 4pm.

    Sunday afternoon could be fine.
Just realize you might not get a rehersal if that's important.

We specifically chose a Sunday wedding because it was about $1000 less than a Friday or Saturday! Our original date got swiped by someone who was willing to pay for the whole venue up front but it worked out I like our new date (which is a week later). I'd probably go with a morning if people are trying to fly out Monday but thats up to you. Ours starts at 415pm on a Sunday but most people are making it a vacation and staying in town till the following Wednesday and wanted to be able to drink and have a good time which most people (although I do) don't like day drinking! haha

Ah. I read that your previous venue fell thru.
I'd still say Sunday afternoon is fine. You could still wrap up at a decent hour.
Glad you found a venue tho!

Are you completely against changing your wedding date so you can get a Saturday that the venue has available?

If it's a 3 day weekend (off of work Monday), I would say do afternoon on Sunday. That is if your out of town guests are not having to fly back Sunday night.
