So, I am getting married soon and was just wondering.. How did you all "groom" your pubic area? I mean, I keep mine nice and trimmed and have shaved it all, but never actually had it ALL waxed. My fiance and I have never had sex, and I am kinda uncertain about what to do downtown. Know what I mean,...

My fiance and I have never had sex, and I am kinda uncertain about what to do downtown. Know what I mean, Doc? Sooo... What did you ladies do for your honeymoon and what would you recommend? *EDIT* I'm up for trying waxing, but what does your significant others think? Do they have a preference? To add some more context, my fiance and i are both still virgins as well. I realize that the answer various with different men, but just curious.

I would stay trim /wax as you usually are in terms of where/locations. If you haven't been with him, and you're completely bald he a. May be expecting it as a long standing situation and b. He may not actually like it. I know a handful of guys who really don't care for the whole area to be bare. So unless he is specify asked and you talked about it. Even if you go get waxed if I by wax what you normally groom.

I know I'm going to try to get waxed a few times in advance but only where I normally personally shave, so same look just as they say.. high and tight. Lol they'll do a cleaner job then I will.

@JoRocka: I agree, what you're talking about is a full bikini. Way less painful than going completely bare.

I had to find this in my Amazon orders. Apparently I ordered it August 18th, 2013 and I still have some left! It's called No Scream Cream 1oz. Here's the link: No Scream Cream 1 oz. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000U7WR1S/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_vuuIwbYM81BAE

I'm an esthetician and I thought I'd give waxing myself a try..... do not, I repeat, do not wax yourself. I'm a freaking professional and it was the worst idea ever! Yes i went stone sober so that is my own dumb fault. No numbing cream, no advil... no booze. So I went to a salon and got a Brazilian. Best thing ever. Mainly because you don't have to worry about it for a few weeks. I'm doing it before the wedding so I don't have to worry about it for our honeymoon. I recommend that if you don't want to deal with stubble.

I third the European Wax Center!!! They will definitely try and sell you on products that you don't need, but their hygiene and wax products are amazing. I don't go full Brazilian, I just do the bikini, and the main is definitely manageable.

@Shanice- thanks'- I'm of doped on cold meds and I seriously couldn't remember the terms LMAO

Also- my friends and I in college did a wax experiment- armpit and groin (like right in the crook of the hip flexor) holy fucking shit.

No way I would EVER try waxing those areas myself- leg- sure- but anywhere else- HELL NO. I cosign Bailey's statement- just go have it done professionally.

I agree with the girls above about not doing it yourself AND trying it once or twice now. Don't let the first experience scare you away though (it took me awhile to return!) since the first time does hurt but there's a major difference second time and on. I do highly recommend elastic wax over the traditional/paper wax. It felt atleast 50% less painful. My lady recommends doing the one before the wedding to be a week before since the skin can get irritated right after the sessions.

Sugaring is the best! Much less painful than waxing, easier cleanup, and better on your skin. I usually go every 4-5 weeks. I got sugared two days before my wedding. Never get waxed, sugared, or tweezed on any body part on the day of a big event. Hello redness and puffiness!

I also will HIGHLY recommend European Wax Center. They are the freaking best.

It does hurt - you're pulling hair out of your body so be prepared for that. Upside - that pain is over really fast and you are left w/ the softest skin ever and after awhile the hair starts to come out a whole hell of a lot easier and less painfully. It gets softer and thinner as opposed to shaving. Shaving sucks! I will also recommend their after care products (I use them all and love them). The body wash has jojoba beads so there is no micro tearing. My waxing is the one ME thing I refuse to give up when we are in money saving mode.

I've been getting waxed for awhile so having my appt on my wedding day was great for me. I am never red or puffy after - just smooth and soft and it was nice to be smooth and soft for our entire honeymoon after our big day and not have to worry about any of my unwanted hair grooming regime being away from home.

And what you do for your personal grooming - it's for you. If you're happy, your partner will be happy too.

I highly recommend a GOOD waxer - read reviews like crazy and get someone with lots of experience and raves. If you can't find anyone like that in your location, don't do it. A good wax is marvelous after the first few times (especially if you use an aftercare like Finipil or anti-bump solution), but a bad wax has you scratchy, itchy and sore for weeks with ingrowns.

I'm contemplating waxing but my reasoning is moreso for the honeymoon than the wedding night honestly. I know there's a good chance of being in a bathing suit every day and I don't want to deal with shaving so I'll likely at least wax the bikini line. But I'm thinking that while I'm at it I may as well just do the whole thing lol

Do not attempt to wax yourself. If you've never done it before, it will hurt like hell and you won't know what you're doing. You'll probably burn yourself or worse, rip off skin.

I pay $50 every 5 weeks for a brazilian, so it's not too expensive.

ETA: This is in San Diego. Where you're at is probably cheaper.

If you want to try waxing, get your first one now so you can get 2-3 in before your wedding. Your skin will probably be very irritated after the first one, but most people improve significantly after three waxes. Also hydrocortisone cream is amazing on waxed skin. I get very red for a day after and it always clears it right up.

Also, I hate European Wax Center. Most of their employees are *not* licensed aestheticians and they're expensive. I tried them for a few months and every time had burns, tons of patches left behind, and was constantly told it was because *I* did something wrong. I didn't exfoliate or something. I've been waxing for long enough to know how to exfoliate and how to care for my skin, thank you very much.

@AmandaJeffrey221 -- whoa, is thats true about them using non-licensed individuals to wax customers, thats RIDICULOUSLY illegal. Report them to your state's board of cosmetologists. they dont mess around with that stuff.

I can't say about other states but in AZ they are licensed. My waxer there is and I've never had any issues at all.

I don't wax, and I don't shave anymore, either. I use Magic Cream, it works amazingly! It's meant for use by black men on their face, and is essentially a less irritating version of Nair. I put it on, let it sit 20 minutes, then scrape it off with an old (clean!) gift card, and boom! Wax-like finish, no razor burn/bumps or stubble. I love it and won't go back.

Just be sure to do a test patch, and most women won't need 20 minutes, I just have very stubborn hair.

Eta: it feels really cold in some places while you're waiting, that's normal.

I go to European Wax Center and have had the same person each time. I read reviews of all the ones within 20 miles and picked the one with the best reviews and the lady with her name mentioned the most.

I will say that you want to give yourself plenty of time to test how you will react to the wax. A friend went to the same chain a few days before a beach trip and had an adverse reaction to the wax. It took her almost 3 weeks before she felt completely comfortable again. You DO NOT want that to happen before your wedding or honeymoon

I did sugaring. I leave a little "landing strip" right at the top so its not ALL gone. But I love my Brazilian sugars. I feel so clean! I also have a huge problem with in-growns so shaving is not really an option. I feel all the ladies when they say the tweezing the stray hairs out hurts the worst! Having my armpits sugared was the worst pain, then legs then upper lip then bikini area. My salon offers wine, I always have a glass before my treatment Smiley smile

ETA: Most men don't care, they are just excited to be having sex with you Smiley smile

I've been in Virginia and California and none of the waxers have actually been estheticians. They had a "certificate" from a "course." Not the same thing.

ETA: In VA, there is a "wax technician" certification. My waxer described it as "the easier version of getting an esthetician license for people who are just starting out. It's totally fine though, my boss trained me and she is really really good." She then proceeded to rip the wax off in the wrong direction. The CA location I went to, three of the waxers had expired certification. The location had just opened.

Of course, I also like small businesses. The woman who waxes me now is the owner of her salon, always remembers details like my fiance's name and where I work, boring stuff but it matters. Also she gives out goodie bags. Last time I got a little bag of cookies, a sugar scrub sample, and a little bottle of lotion.

But in all honesty, don't get waxed for him. You will be sexy and exciting to him no matter what. And you will be sexiest when you're comfortable. So if you wax and feel self-conscious about, say, redness. Or if you get ingrowns. Or if you just don't like it because it doesn't feel natural to you? Then don't wax for the wedding.

And another thing, if you DO wax, your FH will not just assume you will wax forever. Because that's crazy and you are important enough for him to marry you so he would be more than okay with you not waxing if you didn't like it.
