vows (poll): which style did you choose?

Sexypoodle, on January 4, 2020 at 7:53 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 1 23
What style are you selecting for your vow exchange?

1.) write & speak your own vows
2.) repeat after the officiant
3.) say “I Do” after the officiant reads the vows
4.) something else

#2. My FH is not a vow writing person lol but I want one to personalize it for us though.

We’re probably going to do a mix between #1 and #3... where FH and I come up with the vow wording but the officiant reads it and we say “I Do”.

This is what we’re leaning towards. The less we say, the better because we’re super nervous people.

We did the declaration of intent where you say I do and then we repeated vows. I wanted to write our vows but my husband chickened out so we wrote each other private notes instead

That sounds like a great idea. I think I found an officiant that I would like us to meet so I will see what he says. I know the focus will be more on love than religion because he is not religious.

This became a compromise for us. I actually wanted to write our vows and speak them. But FH prefers to say “I do”. So this will be our happy medium.

Filling out our officiant’s worksheet was mainly easy because we’re Christian and are very fine with the officiant mentioning God and doing a marriage blessing. but it was the vow section that we had to stop and think about.

I am okay with God as I am Baptist but he has his views and I have mine. I do not mind mentioning of God either but if I think of it I would rather the focus be on love. I have not thought about the vows just yet as we have not met with officiants yet but we still have some time. I love the idea of personalization but yeah the vows can be hard. I know you guys will make it work well. Smiley smile

#2! I wanted to write our own vowels, but FH was too nervous to do that in front of everyone. We have our vowels molded to fit us more, though (revolving around 1 Corinthians 13). 😊 We are writing private notes to each other beforehand!

#2, there is no way I would be able to compose myself in front of a crowd repeating my own vows. We will be writing our own vows, but keeping it private with one another.

#2 it’s probably the most popular/most common. Although we’re doing a mix of #1 and #3, we’re not going to technically write the vows. But instead we’ll piece together samples from online that are most fitting for us. Then the mushy intimate expressions can be in letters to one another (maybe during our “first look”)

    #1

My FH didn’t want a huge wedding and I did and he compromised.
I didn’t want to read my vows in front if everyone as Ill be nervous and anxious but he wants to so I compromised. Although I’m not sure how to write them

Yep, it’s difficult for me to speak through emotions and a quivering voice. So providing our wording for the officiant to read and only saying “I do” seemed like the best compromise for us.

That was fair 😉. Looking at samples online helps with ideas.

#4. We wrote and read our own vows to each other. And then did the repeat-after-officiant for the “I, Rachel, take...” part. Of course there was more to the ceremony than that, but this is specific to the question asked. 😊
