Vow's - anyone have any examples they can share?

Maui Bride, on April 18, 2011 at 1:58 PM Posted in Planning 1 23

FH and I need to start working on our vow's... we don't want to completely write our own vows and we don't want to just follow total tradition so are planning on working together to write what works for us but are having a hard time getting started! Anybody have any examples to get us started?

Thanks!

We wrote our own and then took the traditional ones:

I ___ take you ____to be my wife, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better or worse, for richer or poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and cherish until we are parted by death.

and when we exchanged rings we said:

With this ring, I thee wed. From this day forward you shall not walk alone. My heart will be your shelter and my arms your home”

My hubby wrote his down on little index cards, because he knew he would be nervous. I just practiced the line I wanted to start with, but I spoke my vows from the heart that afternoon. It went well, because I did not use the traditional words. Best of luck!

Hayley, I love you...no really, I could just kiss you! We're still a ways off, but this has been the most nerve-wracking subject to approach FH with. He's shy and was not happy with the "writing our own vows" idea. So we compromised on writing our own version of vows, but still having to repeat them after our officiant (FH's grandfather) reads them to us. This has been so much help. Thank you!

    Your welcome!

You can also try to fill in the blanks of this one.

(Name of your sweetheart), you are my (best friend, one true love, the one I want to spend the rest of my life with, etc.) Today, I take you to be my (wife, husband, lawfully wedded wife or husband, life partner, etc.) I promise you that I will be (faithful, worthy of your trust, worthy of your love, your loving partner, etc.) I vow to (honor you, cherish you, love you, respect you, laugh with you, cry with you, support you in your goals, etc.), (insert here the length of your vow, for example, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, for as long as we both shall live.)
