Vow Renewing...is it ok to go all out?

Janey, on November 12, 2009 at 2:23 PM Posted in Planning 0 21

Hello, Kinda new here. So my husband and I want to renew our vows for our 5 year ann. We had MAJOR problems with our wedding, such as us having to find new place 3 months before the wedding, a wall being torn down at the venue we found weeks before our wedding (they just hung a curtain to block it!), it was so HOT in there, our DJ played nothing from our list we gave him, our videographer (a relative) missed major key points - such as our first kiss as husband & wife, being introduce as Mr. & Mrs (both times!) and the rest of the video was dark and had nothing but his kids on it! With the venue being so hot, our cake was melting. Our "florist" had an "emergency" and ended up using fake cheap looking flowers. And the little chapel we got married in wouldn't let us decorate a little, use flowers, nothing. So, would it be wrong to do it all the way we want? I've heard we shouldn't make it big because it's not a wedding but also got "do it your way, break rules!" Any help please. Thanks.

Oh goodness, go all out! I'm sorry you had a bad experience...or a few...at your wedding Smiley sad I know lots of places do big vow renewals, if you are looking to travel for it. If you want to keep it close to home I'd still go all out! Why not?

I feel you should go all out with any big event in your life. You do whatever you want. Have fun planning!!!!!

Wow. I'm really sorry to hear that so many things went wrong for your wedding. Heh. Makes me a little nervous about mine...But I mean, it's Florida in the spring. It's gonna rain. lol.

Honestly I would say that the renewal of your vows is about your love for each other. If you want to make it a big thing, go for it. Just like a wedding, it should be YOUR day. If you want to go all traditional and do something small then by all means. If you'd prefer a sort of second wedding, then that's your choice to do.

Honestly, for me, any excuse to get pretty and dress up is a good excuse. Don't worry about what other people say. Go with what makes ya happy. =0)

Go all out! how awesome would it be if we started to put an emphasis on falling in love again and kkeeping/making our relationships/marriages stronger!!! definitely go all out!!!!!!!!!! people get second marriages and second weddings all the time, and they haven't necessarily put the extra effort it takes to keep so mething together (notice I said necessarily because sometimes it is super hard to serperate as well!)

    go you!

I think you should go all out! I plan on having a vow renewal in a few years but it will be in Aus and we will go all out for that as well. Celebrate the love you have. It is so beauitful in my opinion to have a big day that celebrates the fact that you still love eachother as much if not more than you did five years ago.

Sure, Janey, go all out. Five years of a wonderful marriage is a good reason to celebrate. I've noticed at the vow renewal receptions that the couple is so much more relaxed as compared to a new bride/groom. Thus, they usually have a blast at their reception.

Im with pp and the second opinion you got. DO IT! if you want a full-out event, and you can afford it then do it. you deserve to have a wedding and if the first one didnt work out too well then a vow renewal is a great excuse to have a good one this time!

Go ahead and make it fabulous. Learn a lesson from the first wedding and hire only professionals and get lots of referrals for DJ's and photographers and florists and videographers. I know it's tough to spend the money, but you get what you pay for. Relatives and inexpensive vendors seem like a great idea until you realize that they are not doing a professional job. Have fun this time!

Many couples go all out for their Vow Renewal. A lot of couples elope or never had their dream wedding. You sound like every vendor you hired had a problem along with the venue. I suggest you really interview your vendors and ask a lot of questions before you hire them. Make sure they are vendors with wedding experience and are a registered business. I wish you both many happy years together.

I say go all out! If you have the funds to do so without putting yourself in debt or borrow money from other people than you can do what you want to do. I'm sorry you had such a bad experience for your wedding. One of my close friends went all out for their vow renewal a couple months ago. They were both in the military when they got married and most of their families missed the original. Personally we can't wait to be able to do a vow renewal at some point. We might not go all out but we want to do it. Since we already had our dream wedding we want something romantic on a beach somewhere. Have fun with it and don't listen to the people who tell you that you can't do it. You know they are just jealous.

I am already thinking of a vow renewal! lol I say go for it and have the day you always dreamed of. I think we will do one for our 10 or 15 year so our unborn kids can be a big part of it.

Definitely, we are. We also had a bad experience the first time. It was nothing like what we want. We are planning to do EVERYTHING including an engagement party since we never had one before. Everyone deserves to have the wedding experience of their dreams even if they have to wait a few years to get it. Congrats hon and I hope all goes well.
