videographer Deleted our wedding footage.

FloridaL, on October 3, 2017 at 8:05 PM Posted in Planning 1 24

My wife and I got married in June and we went with a vendor on here with great reviews. Part of the package included a videographer. Well June 20th we were told that they were waiting on usb drives that they ordered and once they came in we would get in 2 weeks.. never heard anything so we email them in August to see when we could expect the usb drive with all of our raw footage. They email back and say they will find out but think it was shipped. Note no email was sent saying it was sent and no tracking numbers. So today we get an email stating the videographer had deleted our footage to make room for other weddings. And then they offered a 100 dollar refund which to me is just and insult. We are in disbelief and I personally have tried to reach out to the owner with no response yet. Has anyone been through this that could offer any advice.

Woops. You deserve far more than $100. If they don't come through, try small claims court. I think you would also be amazed how honest, factual reviews might up the proposed amount they offer.

Haven't been through it, but I'm so sorry this happened to you. I would go through your contract and really understand it and go back to them and tell them that their offer is unacceptable. And you paid for a video and expect to be compensated for what they have done. Because it's to late to get a video that's been lost/deleted. But they should compensate you for what you paid for this service!

Yes we signed a contract but the videographer was a add on so there really is limited info about it in the contract. That total was over 2grand .. it’s crazy how helpful a business can be trying to get your business but yet have no need to get back to you after something like this.. how can you just delete footage 3 months after the wedding without verifying that it was received.

So sorry this happened. Sometimes those things are still on the hard drive and if they do backups, etc...they may be able to go to a former state back to your wedding date to retrieve the data. I hope they get back to you. Time to involve the courts to at least get back more than $100. Quite unprofessional.

Yeah like it was suggested before: small courts. If I were you I'd email back telling them they had X days to give you a full refund plus some because it's not like you can go back and get someone else and do this. Your day is passed. You can't have another wedding. So email demanding what you want and give them a deadline and say that if you don't get it from them by the deadline you will take them to small courts. People always fear small courts.

What a dipshit! Yea....take them to the cleaners, every bit of what you paid! I'd start with one more email, then certified letter and copy of the contract with intent to move forward. I'm sorry that happened. Fuck that. This is why you don't hire subcontracted vendors and limited contract add ons.

Wow. In 2017 when you can buy a large external hard drive for $100 it's inexcusable for a business to delete pictures/video from something so recent to make room for newer stuff. So sorry you are dealing w this.

I am so sorry to hear this. I'd be livid.

    I would..

    1. request a Full refund

    2. if they refuse, small claims court...ask for the refund plus court cost, plus extra because you'll never be able to get that footage back.

    3. Blow them up on BBB

    4. Maybe petty, but Blow them up on wedding wire and any other website, Facebook they are associated with.

A year later and we find out our footage is unrecoverable. After posting reviews we finally got a response. Our situation was handled so pourly by this company. Nice entertainment

Having a legal background, here is my suggestion:

    1. Look over the contract in FULL detail.

    2. Request a full refund.

    3. Let the vendor know that they have 'X' amount of days to respond to you with a full refund.

    4. If they don't respond within 'X' amount of days, file a claim.

    5. Print off all emails and other correspondence of communication, as well as the contract.

    6. Make sure to write an HONEST review on here, Google, and wherever else you can to warn others.

You can't get those moments back, and it's not right for them to delete yours to make room for another wedding. Who knows if you're the first person they've done that to. If so, they need to learn that they can't get away with it. Don't get pushed around. I've seen it happen too many times with businesses.

Thank you for the great advice. Looking at the company’s reviews on here apparently it happened to 9 other couples too. It’s so shocking and literally I texted the owner one my one year anniversary wanting to know the status and he had forgotten about us. Pretty bad situation.
