Venue Problems!!!

LaToia, on October 30, 2019 at 2:43 PM Posted in Planning 0 26
Sooo… I already had my venue and deposit in and contract signed, the person I had been dealing with is no longer there, so the new person called me yesterday to tell me there are some changes that needed to be made with my contract, then she proceeded to tell me that the "opt out" fee was going from my contracted $3.00 per person to $10.00 per person, and I have 270 guests... WTH!!! So in my contract it has a paragraph stating that changes can be made from either side as long as it is within 60 days of the event date. But I don't think that its fair the terms of my contract could be changed that drastically!!! I just told her, that was outrageous and unacceptable, and I would like my deposit back and we will find another venue. And the icing on the cake is that they don't have the capacity to cater our wedding as to their cook is a short order or a prep cook. My fiancée told e just to find another venue because he doesn't want to go thru any issues the day of. So I am back to square 1 on venues, and its even harder now because its within a year of our date now. I don't know if this is a "help me" or a "im venting" problem.

Oh my, I'm so sorry. That venue is absolutely in the wrong to change your terms. I agree that a new venue seems to be in order. Hoping you find one even better and definitely easier to work with.

    Oh gosh! That sucks girl!
I hope you can find another venue, I would of done the same and asked for my deposit back and find a new venue. I can’t believe people can just do that to someone like it’s not a big deal. Shame on them.

I know... It sucks because that was a one stop shop for the whole thing. The Wedding, the reception and rooms for it of town guests

We booked our venue within 10 months of our wedding so it can definitely be done with less than a year as we weren't even engaged for a year. Unfortunately, since you signed a contract that states that it can be changed with 60 days of the event they are within their right to change the terms. If I knew what area you were looking in I would gladly look up some places to recommend to you. We got married at a hotel that handled the catering, ceremony, reception and rooms.

That’s terrible but you are doing the right thing by going somewhere else. You don’t want to have to deal with people that would do something like that in the beginning. Good luck.

Ugh that sucks! Sorry girl! A similar thing happened to me but my venue was really understanding and gave me some discounts. Sorry that venue wasn’t understanding. Good luck finding a new one!

Thank you ladies, I will gladly accept any suggestions for venues. I am in Fort worth, Texas. It is nice to be able to share frustrations and good moments with positive women in the same area of life. I appreciate it!

We got married at a Radisson hotel in PA, but I see there is a Radisson hotel in Fort Worth. If the one in Fort Worth is anything like the one in PA then it is a really nice place to get married.

I'm in the northeast part of Dallas, but we're getting married at the Chapel at Ana Villa. We went in and got our wedding booked about 5 months out because we decided to up our timeline. It was a bit pricey, but they are super professional and are doing the catering for us. I would recommend looking around at the Walter's Estates group and see if you like anything. There were also hotels literally five feet from our venue, which was also convenient for out of town guests.

Omg! I can’t believe that they are trying to change the contract. That is absolutely ridiculous and unprofessional. I would definitely demand the deposit back and find another venue. I hope it all works out for you and your fiancé! I’m so sorry that is happening.

Within 60 days on either side? Does that mean you can change it too?

It seems kind of an odd clause in the contract. So does the “opt out” fee. I mean if the contract is changed don’t both parties need to agree? And not, why doesn’t one rewrite it so they are only held accountable for 150 guests minimum?

This actually happened to me where I had a venue then it sold then the people I deal with left and the new owner wanted to charge more for everything. And now she has been saying she doesn’t have to give us a full refund. So I 100% feel your pain! The good news is.... At least you got your money back! So you can use it at the new venue. That’s a positive! Good luck with your new plans. You will find a great place Smiley smile

It was put in there so that I can make changes to the number of guests without it being a charge. But because it was added in it had to go for both sides. The person I was dealing with had been there for 8 years and she wasn't expecting to be gone, the hotel sold and a new GM was brought in and he brought in his wife to take that position and she came in head strong!
