Venue planning issues

Sydney, on June 11, 2019 at 1:29 PM Posted in Planning 0 8

We are considering The Ridge Asheville for our wedding ceremony/reception, however the curfew is 10pm. I know that a lot of our guests will want to continue the party, so we are also looking into after party locations. The only problem is that the site is about a 35 minute drive from the hotel cluster in downtown Asheville where we are planning to get a block, and we are required to use a transportation service if alcohol is being served.

Is a 35 minute bus ride going to kill the atmosphere? It sucks because there are really no decent hotels closer to the venue.

Maybe if we have two different buses, one to the hotel for those who don't want to continue and one for those that do, maybe the atmosphere will carry on in the "after party" bus?

Any thoughts? Advice?

I think having two buses is a great idea if it's in your budget. One would be just fine if you plan to stay local to the blocked hotels, or within walking distance You're usually allowed to bring alcohol onto a chartered bus, so if that's the after party vibe you're looking for, then it shouldn't be a problem.

I don't think so. We are hiring two 55 person buses for our guests, our venue is a 30 minute drive from the blocked hotel. After, the hotel bar is staying open until 2 AM (we have to end the wedding by 11 PM) and there are bars in the area.

I don't think it will kill the atmosphere at all. You can bring drinks on the bus and continue your party there until you get to your next location. Alcohol is allowed on any hired ride in NC. So I think that is a great idea. Plus, downtown Asheville is so fun, I feel like most people will stay lively in anticipation for the next stop.

I don’t have great advice but will definitely follow this thread because I’ll be in a similar situation! We booked a venue about 25 minutes from Asheville also, and last call has to be 9:30pm, but I’m positive we will have people wanting to keep the party going also! I

Also the Ridge is absolutely beautiful! Have you considered doing the ceremony there and reception downtown at their sister venue? Could be an option!

I had actually just thought of that not too long ago! We went to see the venue and I hadn't inquired about ceremony only, their website says its now weekday or Sunday only so I'll have to call them about it today.

It’s crazy how quickly the venues around AVL are getting snatched up!

Hey Sydney! How did this call go? Can they do a ceremony only, with a reception in their sister venue?
