Venue Issue

on April 12, 2019 at 5:34 AM Posted in Planning 0 40

I'm trying desperately to plan the venue details but I am not enthused with the barn/farm weddings. I can hardly find a venue that isn't barn/farm. I've literally looked in three states (SC, NC, and GA). Is anyone else having a similar planning issue?

Are you looking for an outdoor venue? If so, have you though about a botanical garden or even a public park that have a venue to hold a ceremony

I would prefer indoors, maybe with the option of some outdoors. Late August is ridiculously hot in South Carolina. I don't want anyone to break a sweat. I did check into the local botanical garden but it isn't so great. It feels like I have two options; get married in a barn or hotel.

    Huguenot Mill and Loft

    The Old Cigar Warehouse

Here are two I found with a quick search that are not farm or barn style. Although, keep in mind just because a venue says “farm” doesn’t means it will look a certain way. My venue, Little River Farms (GA) does not look like a farm in the building I’m getting married in.

Maybe look more around the cities, like Charleston or Charlotte? I live in a rural area and virtually all options are barns or vineyards. We would’ve had to go to a city to get something else.

Have you looked at hotels? Museums? Halls? Warehouses? Restaurants? University buildings? Private houses you can hire?

There’s tons of venues in NC that are houses/mansions, a “castle”, lodges, country clubs, beach houses, hotel resorts, city lofts.

Golf courses and country clubs could be an option that have that indoor/ outdoor vibe without being a farm or barn. Hotels and resorts with ballrooms that have windows are another option.

Oh wow.....Hmmm, have you thought about having a destination wedding? Not so much out the country but maybe somewhere else within it, maybe like Florida?

I’m not a fan of the rustic, barn, country theme either and it’s pretty popular where I live. With that being said, there are barn venues that actually look really nice and polished inside. So you could actually make it look elegant and nice and not rustic. You’ll have to imagine it though.

Try looking up old warehouses. I am in PA but we have a lot of those. Maybe a brewery or winery, also.

We have a discussion " December Brides 2019....Let's chat" and someone is getting married in the mountains of GA. I think "farm" is in the title, it's not an old mansion, but it's a lovely venue and definitely not a farm. Another bride I know is getting married in a beautiful white chapel in a hilly area of northern AL. Our venue is an 1818 mansion. What is your dream venue?

Right, there are some nice venues but I'd feel like I was copying my husband's cousin who just got married April 6th. Maybe the venue vibes will change soon. The options in my area are mediocre.

That's true. When you mentioned Savannah, I latched on to it. Is it as nice there as it seems?

My dream venue would be a nice, old (or new that looks old) mansion with live oaks or at sea during sunset.

I have considered warehouses. There aren't very many where I live in SC but there is one in GA that I'm considering; not terribly far from where I live. I have been checking into wineries. Those seem like a happy medium.

I've checked into Huguenot Mill and The Old Cigar Warehouse. They're very nice but I'm not sure I can fit them into my budget yet. I'm just not digging these barns in my area.
