Venue Issue

on April 12, 2019 at 5:34 AM

Posted in Planning 40

I'm trying desperately to plan the venue details but I am not enthused with the barn/farm weddings. I can hardly find a venue that isn't barn/farm. I've literally looked in three states (SC, NC, and GA). Is anyone else having a similar planning issue?

It was a brief thought. I live in SC so I have the beach within 4 hours and believe it or not, I don't like some areas in Florida. I spent a lot of time in Jacksonville. I don't recommend it lol. Although, that did prompt me to check into venues on Florida's Gulf Coast. I do like that area. Thank you so much!

It depends on how many people you are having.

For under 30 ish, you could rent a really nice house.

For over 100, you could go to a museum or hotel

For general, I recommend botanical garden. They are very easy to decorate

For the budget friendly option, restaurant.

I live close to Greenville, SC so there are several options within reasonable driving distance. This is for a vow renewal so it will definitely be a smaller wedding; 50 or less. I just haven't found the right place. I have great proximity to northern Georgia too. I haven't really considered Charlotte but it's definitely worth looking into. That's just over 2 hours from me. Charleston is definitely on my radar but might be just a little far for some of my main guests to travel (it's about 4 hours away).

    Ideally, a little of both.

Yes! That is the trend these days! Everything is super rustic or in a barn! It was hard for me to find outdoor ceremony places that were not rustic.

I was the opposite of you all I wanted was a barn/farm theme kind of wedding!! Did you try looking on here at venues and seeing if they have other options?

I have been looking. I've found a few options but I'm still on the fence. Thankfully, I have until August 2020 to go so I don't feel too pressured yet but I know how quickly venues can get booked up for summer weddings. Honestly, finding the perfect venue is at the most daunting task for me. I have lived to regret the venue I used at my actual wedding so I want to be sure of getting the right one for my vow renewal. I am so wedding-ignorant I think I may just need a wedding planner.

You don't need a wedding planner (I'm getting married in Sept 2020) unless you have that extra cash you're willing you spend. I'm still up in the air about hiring an wedding planner since I've pretty much got everything either booked or I've been contacting vendors getting price quotes from them and then going to narrow the ones I'm interested in and go from there.

Also there's a planning timelime on here it's helpful Smiley smile
All you really need to get book is your venue then start shopping around for prices on other vendors.

Don't you usually have to be a member of a country club to get married there? If so, it might just be worth it; my husband's grandpa can play golf when he gets board at the reception lol.

We do have a few nice hotels in my area. They do offer wedding options. I should probably check more into that and get over my cheesy movie image of a hotel wedding. At least I wouldn't have far to go after the reception.

    Thanks!

I'll have to look more into that. Ideally, I'd like to stay within 2 hours of Greenville, SC. But farther isn't a deal breaker.

I'm going to look more into the museum idea. That would be a nice change for what is normal in my area. Plus it would give my guests the option of browsing some exhibits.

I have checked a few university buildings but I'm not sure about those yet. I'm going to put more consideration into the museum idea. I'm not sure if there are any private homes for hire. I am hoping to have the ceremony and reception at the same place. Is that something a restaurant could even do?! I mean I know you can have receptions there. I'm sorry I know I sound like an idiot. I'm wedding-ignorant. Bear with me.

You are so welcome! Believe it or not, there are some pretty reasonable wedding packages down there. You’ll probably come out cheaper having it there than in town.

Had not thought of Wilmington. Charleston is on my radar though!

Also, don't know how you feel about this, but throughout the south there's plenty of historic mansions/ houses aka plantations that are also wedding venues. I live in TX, and friends of mine got married at a nice venue with plantation in the title. It didn't cost much for them, it was very classy, and is the top recommended venue in my area. But me and my FH are uncomfortable getting married at a place with plantation in the title, so we're aiming for a hotel with windows in the ballroom.

Have you seen Edinburg West in Greenville, SC? Its a glass house/greenhouse and totally affordable on most budgets in Greenville! It wasn't what I personally was looking for but was beautiful for sure!
