Venue Dilemma

Stephanie, on July 29, 2019 at 11:30 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 28

We want to get married on a farm/barn area, So we started looking. We found a farm that we loved and also thought the price was great even thou we had to rent tables, chairs, tent etc. All in with the farm, and all the rentals its going to cost around 4,000. Which again was good compared to what the prices and over venues cost in my area. Now keep in mind that wasn't anything else ( DJ, caterer, photographer etc.) And its only like 20 mins from our house!!! We were sold, We haven't booked it yet because we are a little over a year out. Well, Yesterday i was on facebook just looking around and i came across a really beautiful farm that does weddings! It had way more stuff offered then the farm we looked at. So I emailed them to get a price list thinking there was no way it was less than what we looked at. I was so wrong! It was only 1,800!!! Way more things included, and i wouldn't have to rent anything!!!!! But here's the dilemma its like 45 mins away from our house. So my question for all you brides out there, Which would you rather have a close venue that cost more, or a cheaper venue that is farther away? (If anyone is wondering, we had an appointment to see it next month!!!!! Smiley love )

I don't think 45 minutes is a big deal. I would for sure save the money.

That's what i said! We asked all our bridal party and out of 8 people we only had 1 person that told us to spend more money and that the place closer.

I don't think the drive is a big deal. The only thing I would be concerned about for guests would be if they are drinking and driving 45 mins back.

I wouldn't mind 45 minutes as long as there is a hotel around to stay at.

45 minutes is nothing. If you really love it, I’d go with that one. It’s cheaper and less rentals you have to deal with. And if you really don’t want to drive the 45 minutes, you can probably find a hotel or AirBnB to rent the day/night if the wedding. Even if you do that, it’s still cheaper than the close one.

I wouldn't mind the 45 min away, especially if I get to save money on the venue that can maybe be spent on another area of the wedding. The main thing you need to think about is which farm location do you like best and which one can you see yourself getting married at.

I'd go with the cheaper venue further away, especially since more is included with that second venue!

I dont think 45 minutes is bad. I rather have the cheapest venue that offer more things. My venue is 30 minutes away from my home.

45 minutes is no big deal at all, especially if you're going to save over $2000!! Our venue is an hour+ away from where we live. Of course we don't want it too far from home, but the venue was a location we really wanted, and the price was the best we got from all the venues we toured, so it was a no-brainer really.

    Go for it!!!

I drive 30 minutes daily to work and 30 minutes back home.
My college was 45 minutes from my parents driveway and I had no issue making that drive one the weekends and maybe once during the week.
45 minutes isn't a big deal, and if it is (I like to party hard too) they can opt to get a hotel.

45 mins is definitely well worth $2,200! I drove almost an hour to and from work last year, so that'd be fine haha. Just be sure, before you get too excited, that it has excellent reviews and you're getting what you want from it. That seems like an AMAZING deal, but be sure it's well worth it!

I used to live in the middle of nowhere VT where there was nothing useful within 30 minutes, so 45 minutes seems like cake to me, a no-brainer really. But for someone who isn't so used to driving to get anywhere it might seem daunting. 45 minutes really isn't bad, especially if it offers more stuff and costs less. If people are really bothered by it, perhaps take some of the savings and get some kind of transportation arranged. A family member of mine who got married a few years ago rented a school bus to cart people from the hotel to the ceremony, and from the ceremony to the reception and it worked really well (only 2 people didn't fit and they wanted to leave early anyway so they took their own car).

So if that's where you want to get married do it and the ppl who wanna be there won't mind driving the distances Smiley smile
