VENT: Blah, I got screwed by an etsy seller

I ordered my guestbook from etsy. I specifically chose someone who had 800 reviews. The guestbook had a long lead time of 8 weeks and I ordered it on October 20th. So the week before last, I "conversationed" the seller on etsy to ask how it was going and I got an auto-reply that they're busy...

I ordered my guestbook from etsy. I specifically chose someone who had 800 reviews. The guestbook had a long lead time of 8 weeks and I ordered it on October 20th. So the week before last, I "conversationed" the seller on etsy to ask how it was going and I got an auto-reply that they're busy crafting away and to contact them via their external email. Well I did that too and didn't hear back. I went over to the receipt to click on the seller and it's showing up as an "oops that page doesn't exist" type of error. But I can see her last four reviews, all from december. All four of them are angry brides who never received their items and no contact from the seller. The shop appears to be closed on etsy now.

While I can easily get a new guestbook in time, I'm actually D: D: D: about the money. It wasn't a cheap order and because of the long lead time, I exceed the 45 days requirement on paypal to file a dispute. :-\ I'm going to contact paypal today.

    This happened to me once. I only spent about $45, but Etsy didn't get my money back. I filed a dispute (a bunch of other people did too) and the shop was shut down, but the seller never fessed up and so that was that. I'm sorry this happened to you. I hope you get your money back. That's quite a chunk of change.

    Dang that sucks! Hopefully Chase will take care of you and get your money back. Might take a while though.

    Etsy states in their dispute process that if you paid through paypal, you have to go through paypal to get your money back. Etsy can side with you in the dispute process, but they can't get money back unless they do it through their own direct pay.

    Oy, that blows! I really hope you get your money back.

    I had a similar'ish' experience on etsy, she kept me hanging for over two months on some labels. Eventually I had to file a claim, and she said that they were on their way. Then she cancelled the order, refused to give me a tracking number (because surprise surprise, nothing ever arrived- so I doubt she ever sent it) but by then the purchase was 'closed' so I couldn't leave a review. That soured me so much and I realized why most of the reviews are positive, they can close it on you when they know they've screwed up so that you can't leave a review. I closed my etsy account soon after- my one and only etsy experience and it was awful. I really hope that this has a better ending for you!

    I don't, but I'm probably just going to either see if i can rush a shutterfly book or this date photograph that I saw.

    Hopefully you will get your money back from the credit card company. Capital One is good about that, I ordered something for my niece from Gymboree had it delivered to my moms. Someone stole the package out of her mailbox, really who still kids clothes. When I called UPS and USPS they both said it was delivered and they couldn't do anything. I called Capital One got my money back in 3 business days.

    Good luck, it will work out.

    Chase is pretty good too, I've had my debt card number stole, someone ordered three iphones and shipped them to California. Chase refunded me my money with no problems.

    I don't know what size guest book you need Janeen. But I have a code for a free 8x8 book from Shutterfly. If you want it, its yours. That way you would only have to pay the rush shipping.

    I'm am so sorry this happened! I would be livid. Actually this situation is why I am leery about ordering from etsy. Found a seller with gorgeous wedding jewelry, decent prices but I keep looking around cause I'm too afraid to get screwed.

    I didn't pay through PayPal, so I was basically SOL. I know only use PayPal on Etsy.

    Paypal has actually changed it to 180 days. So you can still dispute it.
