VENT: Blah, I got screwed by an etsy seller

I ordered my guestbook from etsy. I specifically chose someone who had 800 reviews. The guestbook had a long lead time of 8 weeks and I ordered it on October 20th. So the week before last, I "conversationed" the seller on etsy to ask how it was going and I got an auto-reply that they're busy...

I ordered my guestbook from etsy. I specifically chose someone who had 800 reviews. The guestbook had a long lead time of 8 weeks and I ordered it on October 20th. So the week before last, I "conversationed" the seller on etsy to ask how it was going and I got an auto-reply that they're busy crafting away and to contact them via their external email. Well I did that too and didn't hear back. I went over to the receipt to click on the seller and it's showing up as an "oops that page doesn't exist" type of error. But I can see her last four reviews, all from december. All four of them are angry brides who never received their items and no contact from the seller. The shop appears to be closed on etsy now.

While I can easily get a new guestbook in time, I'm actually D: D: D: about the money. It wasn't a cheap order and because of the long lead time, I exceed the 45 days requirement on paypal to file a dispute. :-\ I'm going to contact paypal today.

No, I talked to Paypal today. that 180 days thing only applies to certain transactions. This one fell under the 45 days umbrella.

Damn that really sucks. I say we all make a road trip and go beat her door down. Or we can all be crafty make one page and send it to you then you bind it? Maybe?

Haha that would be a great idea for a bride on here actually! I don't have the time left to do it, but it would be really cool for someone!

I don't know about Chase's policy but with the financial institution I'm with, we're usually pretty good about returning the money back to you in situations like this. I'm sorry to hear about it though, I hope it works out Janeen!

Oh Janeen. I'm so sorry. That totally sucks. I have no advice, all I can offer is some sympathy. I hope it all works out for you. Ugh.

Lol the evil part of me wanted to. In fact, in his spy ways, he found her husband's work phone number. Can you imagine calling up her husband and being like "your wife owes me moneyyyyyyyy"?

Alas, no dice. But it sure would be fun to sign her up for a chewbacca roar contest on craigslist.

Not all Etsy sellers are bad. I have been selling on Etsy for 2 years and never had any problems. I hope everything works out for you. I like to keep constant contact with my buyers. One or two bad sellers shouldn't spoil the whole site.

FYI, your bank has 10 days to give you provisional credit and 45-90 days to investigate and decide if you were really scammed.

Oh gosh that's horrible and a lot of money, I'm sorry!! Did you pay through paypal with a credit card? If so, I would definitely call your CC company and report the charge as fraudulent.

    Janeen,

I have a free 8 x 11 photo book with rush delivery in my shutter fly account, if you want it, its yours. The only problem is that it is in my account and not a code because they messed something up. I don't know how we could make this work, but if you want to pm me, we can figure it out and get it to you.

That's horrible Smiley sad I am sooo sorry to hear! I'm sure like others have said Paypal may be able to help get your money back. PayPal is pretty great when it comes to customer service. I actually bought something (non wedding related) from Instagram and paid through PayPal using the "Family and Friends" option- (yes huge risk). Luckily, this seller had other complaints and had banned her from using Paypal and I got my money back, while I was still one the phone-no waiting at all!

    Good luck!

When buying a guestbook, think about where you are going to put it after the wedding. You may leave on a coffee table for a few weeks but it will end up in a closet somewhere later. Got to Amazon and buy one for 20 bucks- they have some really pretty once. I hope you get your money back! What a shame... don't let it ruin your wedding planing.

That stinks! Hopefully you get a nice replacement in a quick turnaround-I love the photobook as guestbooks. That's actually what we had, but had way fewer people sign than expected. Make sure you put it in a HIGHLY visible place. I thought our table next to the placecards and the floor plan for the tables was visible but had several guests try to blow right past that. Amateur hour! Anyhow, I've had many good etsy experiences and 1 last week that was sucky & although she did refund my $, my sister's Christmas gift ended up not being complete. Good luck!
