Veils- Did it bother you?

Allie, on May 15, 2019 at 12:18 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 21

I would like to wear a veil because I know my FH prefers traditional looks, but I'm worried about being uncomfortable and it weighing down my hair or messing with my hair style. For those of you already married, did your veil seem to get in your way or did you barely notice it? I'm trying to pick a fingertip veil and also consider my preferred hairstyle. I've tried on some fingertip ones and I'm just concerned about how it will work with my hairstyle (low, messy, bun, romantic)

I'm not married yet, BUT I'm putting in the veil a little before the ceremony and just wearing it for ceremony. After that, I'll take it out for the pictures and reception. It's not really my thing, but my mom and sister like it and I don't really care either way. So, I compromised with wearing it for awhile. Mine is fingertip and really light weight though.

For my first wedding, I wore a drop veil literally pinned into my hair. It didn't ruffle a thing and it was easy to take out. If you don't want a blusher, you can put a veil comb in under your bun so it just falls down your back. That wouldn't interrupt your hair at all.

Very pretty! Similar to what I'd like. Are you wearing the veil over or under? I'd like to just wear it to the ceremony but we are taking most of our pictures beforehand.

I am not married yet, however this isn't my first rodeo. For my first wedding to my late husband I wore a veil for the ceremony only and took it off for the reception. It seemed to work out great, I didn't have any issues and it didn't bother me. I just remember the sense on relief when I took it off so I didn't have to worry about it any more. Now that I think about it, it did get stuck in my armpit a few times, just a little nusance

First, low, messy bun, will be fine with a veil! Your hairstylist can put in your veil for you or show someone how to do it. They can also show someone how to remove it, so you can remove it after the ceremony/ pictures or whenever. I recommend removing it b/c it's just at the length that people can snag it when hugging you, and you probably don't want it in all night.

I had my hair half down with a cathedral length veil, and my HMUA did the above - she put it in at the venue (b/c they came to our venue and did everything there) and then showed someone how to take it out (my tallest BM!). No issues. It didn't snag or mess with my hair. I took it out after ceremony and pictures so I could dance and have fun the rest of the night!

I am married and my veil was fingertip. After the ceremony I was ready to take it off, I felt so uncomfortable and heavy.

I'm indifferent so I'm going to try both (because I haven't yet) to see which I like better. We'll be doing a lot of pictures beforehand, but none of my and FH until after the ceremony.

I had a fingertip veil and I wore it all night even through the reception. I kept having to tell my husband when he put his arm around me to go under the veil so it didn't pull but that was the only issue I had. Make sure to have your person doing your hair and makeup to secure it on the comb piece on each side with bobby pins. I had no issue with it falling out or messing up my hair. Here are some pics of how she put it in:

I wore a long 6ft veil. I think it's called "chapel" length??? Anyways, I have very very very thin hair and I used extensions to create my updo. I loved my veil! Totally made me feel more bridal, fit in my hair perfectly. It was as light as a feather, it seriously weighed nothing. I did traditional tulle, no crystals or heavy lace. Simple and elegant.

My mom put it on me for the pictures and first look, I wore it through the ceremony and then I took it off on my way to the reception. I didn't see or hug many people outside of family/bridal party so no one had the chance to pull it down/out. I would have never worn it into the reception for that reason.

For my first wedding, I wore a veil for the ceremony and pictures, but took it out for the reception. It wasn't heavy at all, and the comb stayed put but was easy to remove when I wanted to.

I got it from Blanca Veils! She has an Etsy shop and a website! I ordered the tulle sample (I think its free or super cheap and you pay shipping for like $3) and I found the color that matched my dress and ordered the plain tulle 6ft veil. I wanted a long one to the ground. She has a ton of listings but she does custom orders as well!

Mine did not bother me at all. Had my hair in a somewhat loose bun at the base of my neck, and had a veil that was easy to pop in and out. Wore it up until the reception started. Didn't get in the way or become annoying at all (Except when I couldn't get it to stay in and had to have my bridesmaid help me pin it lol)

It didn’t bother me inside. Unfortunately, I got married on the beach and there was a slight breeze which made it INCREDIBLY bothersome. It kept blowing out of place over to one side and I spent my whole ceremony itching to adjust it , but knew it was a lost cause. Before we got on the beach though, I hardly noticed it. It was super light! It was also only I think elbow or hip length.

Heres how it was THE WHOLE CEREMONY (at least it allowed for good pics of the back of my dress??). It may have fared a little better if I had put it on under the hairstyle (or would’ve pulled, who’s to say?) but it wasn’t exactly the length I had been hoping for and I didn’t like where the edge sat of it was pinned in lower on my head ...haha joke’s on me I guess since it didn’t spend much time sitting there!
It did also lead to this fun pic with my lovely ladies 🤣 so I’m not all complaints

Mine didn’t really bother me, and it was VERY windy. I also kind of just forgot about it and never took it off until I got home lol.
