Veil length: how did you choose?

MzRosaLu, on September 8, 2015 at 9:28 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 18

Just curious how you ladies decided on veil length. My dress is a fit and flare, and I tried it on with a fingertip veil in the shop (see picture). However, I am not a fan of where the fingertip veil cuts off. I also wonder if maybe a chapel length veil would be too formal for a morning brunch wedding? I am interested in a waltz veil which would hit around my knees. Thoughts? I'm especially curious to hear from brides with fitted gowns - which veil length did you choose and why? Pics would be great too!

I had a ballgown, not a fitted but I always wanted a cathedral length veil so I went with cathedral.

My gown was also a ball gown. But I've always wanted a cathedral length veil, and that's what my mom had. When she offered her veil to me and suggested to cut it to fingertip length, I thought of that as sacrilege. I think a cathedral length can be worn at any time.

I have a mermaid dress and chose a cathedral length. It almost reaches the end of my train. I saw pics of them and fell in love even before I picked out my dress. I bought it off amazon for about $14. I added a pic so you could see what it looks like.

Mine's a mermaid with a pretty long train so I went a cathedral length train. We're

getting married in a church so the formality matches.

At first I was like "hah no, I ain't doin no veil"

And then saw pictures of dresses similar to mine with cathedral and how it's making a comeback... So, now I want one.

Do you think a morning ceremony in a venue other than a church changes the formality? Or could I wear a longer veil?

Since we didn't have a religious ceremony, I wasn't going to wear a veil - not that this applies to anybody else, it was just how my mom and I felt at first. But then I realized I didn't feel "bridal" enough, so I settled for a fingertip-length veil.

The only downside to it is that I had to keep pulling it to the front, because it slid to my back all the time (see bottom pic)

My dress was mermaid and i did a fingertip two tier veil. I went to a store that had my dress (a sample) and tried on different styles/lengths and then went home, looked at the pictures and picked one.

sorry I don't have pro pics yet so these aren't the best..

ETA - I loved cathedral but our ceremony was outdoors and I was worried about the wind with such a long veil.

Personally, I don't think you can ever go wrong with a cathedral veil. I actually almost got your dress and tried it on with a cathedral veil...it looks beautiful. Also, you can do a more simple veil (without any lace detailing, for example) and I think that would add just the right touch for a brunch wedding.

I'm doing a brunch wedding with a morning ceremony, not in a church. At first, I was planning on not wearing a veil at all. When I went dress shopping, the consultant put a fingertip veil on me with my dress... once I saw the veil with the dress I decided I have to have a veil. Now I have an inspiration pic from pinterest with a cathedral length veil and I've decided that's what I'm going to get.

I was originally going to go with a cathedral veil but my dress has a dropped waist with a really fun skirt, and the longer veils tended to hide the skirt or mess with the overall picture. I ended up going with a fingertip, but it's a little bit shorter than most fingertips, so it hits right at my lower back.

My dress is a fit and flare and at first I was not going to do a veil, but then the dress store put a fingertip length veil on me and I liked the way it looked. I am only wearing it for the ceremony though and then taking it off.

I wanted an elbow length but it showed up and was cathedral, and I loved it. Easy choice.

    I dont have a fit & flare, BUT I am having a Morning Ceremony & 12pm-5pm reception.

I have a ballgown with a pretty decent length train. I got a Cathedral length veil. I have always loved them and felt like they were so perfectly "Bridal". I Couldn't imagine any other length for myself. I never even thought twice about it, even with our earlier in the day wedding!

Fit and flare dress, I purchased a cathedral length veil and shortened it to chapel. It may be a little formal for my 3pm outdoor wedding but I really don't care. It's what I wanted.

I'm doing fingertip. Never really thought about a Cathedral length veil until this very moment. I may go try one on with my dress and see which I choose. Here's a pic of the original finger tip veil. (I didn't purchase because FMIL is making my veil from my moms dress Smiley smile ).

ETA- Just notice its not fingertip lol. But still may change to Cathedral.
