Vegetarian wedding food!

Lalaluna, on March 15, 2018 at 8:28 AM Posted in Planning 0 33
Myself, my sister, and a few other friends and family members are vegetarian. Typically the vegetarian option at the weddings we’ve been to we’re super boring: ziti with marinara, salad without the meat (in addition to the salad course), and the last wedding I was at was literally a plate of sautéed vegetables with mystery sauce. Ugh! Our chef for our wedding recommended butternut squash ravioli with a Parmesan sauce, with sage and garlic. I think it sounds amazing, but would you eat this? We will also have a chicken and beef fish, a potato side, a vegetable side, and 2 salads. It’s buffet style!

What was the best vegetarian wedding food you’ve had?

I am not vegetarian, but I would absolutely eat that.

Alternately, any kind of baked gnocchi with cheese is a win for me (bonus points for throwing spinach in there, too!). I don't think you can go wrong with any sort of filling pasta dish that isn't just spaghetti and prego.

I would definitely eat that! I'm not a vegetarian, but most of the time I prefer vegetables over meat and that's what I choose. At my wedding the options are either the boring stuffed shells oooor a vegetarian Pad Thai. I'm leaning towards that.

I loooove pad Thai!!! Our chef is definitely French inspired so I doubt that would be his forte but I would eat pad Thai all day every day!! That’s something I haven’t had at a wedding before!

I'm not a vegetarian, but I'm pretty sure my stomach just growled reading that.

One thing that came to mind was manicotti stuffed with a cheese or stuffed pasta shells. A nice lentil dish could also be delicious if your caterer has experience cooking with those. Lentils can be tricky if you're not used to cooking with them, but they're packed with protein and fiber.

I was a vegetarian for 12 years after seeing a pig at a pig roast for a wedding (yes pork and pigs never clicked until I saw it)!

My favorite vegetarian food would be a toss up between a chickpea Indian dish I had (sorry don't remeber the name but it was sooo good) and vegan personal pizza (red sauce temph sausage tons of veggies with a thin crust).

On another note a friend two years ago did soup and mini grilled cheeses as a late night snack. They had vegan grilled cheese (which actually didn't suck) and a blended black bean soup. It gave me so much life at the end of the night!!!

I remember one wedding with a quinoa dish and another with a risotto both being very filling and a nice change from pasta. Both had veggies too of course but those were the base kind of. I was pleased with how filling both dishes were!!

All of these ideas are making me so hungry!!

i totally forgot to mention that during cocktail hour we have the choices of either a pasta or risotto live station along with the passed apps! I loveeee risotto but you only get one choice I think and I guess they just make it infront if you, vs the pasta station where you get a few different options of pasta shapes and sauces and I’m not sure which to choose!

That sounds delicious! I love butternut squash ravioli.

I've never actually had the vegetarian meal at a wedding. For ours I'm leaning towards a chickpea coconut curry (vegan/GF) since it covers all of the known dietary restrictions, but I kinda want to order it for myself now!

I would eat butternut squash ravioli.

My vegetarian option is Mushroom stuffed ravioli. I figure with that I'm making a good offer for vegetarians and Italians. Smiley smile

So my personal attendant went Vegan (not vegetarian) and when he comes to town we look up recipes that we can make so he can eat with us and to show our support. We made a butternut squash pasta once and it was incredible! Your chef definitely knows what he’s talking about

I am a vegetarian and our caterer is making a stuffed portobello mushroom for myself and another vegetarian guest. I think the butternut squash option sounds delicious!

Sounds delicious! Ive been to too many weddings where the veg dish Was slapped together. The last wedding I went to was heavy apps and the only thing I could eat was fruit and egg rolls! I mean I love egg rolls but come on!

I am vegetarian also. I am going to our tasting in a few weeks. Personally, I don't like butternut ravioli but others might disagree. The sauce may make all the difference. Did you have a tasting? If you like it - go with it. I've had amazing roasted veggie dishes with sides of potatoes or wild rice in the past - the flavoring makes a world of difference.
