Update of mom's wedding dress

Here is it cleaned! (I know you can see my bra, we are going to have that pinned/fixed)

I'll definitely be following the progress on this one. What year was your mom married?

@centerpiece, my mother got married in 1980. The restoration place that cleaned it was amazed at how well a 37 year old dress was preserved. All the yellowing and orange spots came out. I'll be taking off the sleeves and added a bustle, that's about it!

I'd actually leave the sleeves- I think they look insanely elegant.

Thanks y'all! @jorocka, I do love the sleeves and once I saw them cleaned I did consider keeping them, just worried about feeling too constricted and hot. You're right, I do feel very lucky!

Gorgeous! If you were going to remove the sleeves anyway, what if you removed the opaque part of the sleeve at the top and re-attached the sheer lace from the bottom to make a 3/4 length sleeve. It might feel less constricting.

I would leave the sleeves. So darn gorgeous! But if you do remove them you could always incorporate the lace into trim for your veil or around your bouquet

What a lovely 1980 dress; not overdone at all! I would leave the sleeves too. Since your wedding's in October, maybe it wouldn't be too hot?

Leave the sleeves!! LOVE that dress, it fits you so well. My mom also got married in 1980 with a similar dress. It would never fit me! lol.

I thought the same thing about the sleeves -- they're beautiful (not the billowy type that so many of us 80's bride wore).
