Unlit Taper Candles for Morning Wedding

Hannah , on May 2, 2019 at 10:03 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 2 8
So I am an idiot and was planning on using a bunch of various sized candlesticks and taper candles for my reception centerpieces. I am two weeks away from the wedding and have already purchased EVERYTHING for the centerpieces. I completely spaced and forgot that my venue doesn’t allow open flame!!! 🤦🏼‍♀️

Do I still go ahead with my plan and just not light them? It’s a morning wedding so maybe it won’t be that big of a deal? Or is it too weird and I should just start from scratch? Help please!! I really had my heart set on this idea. Not a fan of battery operated candles.

If I was in your shoes, having already bought everything, I would just use them. Especially if it’s going to be during daylight, I doubt most people will even notice! As long as you have a centerpiece of some sort they’re not that big of a deal. And the mismatched candle stick idea sounds really cute!

I'm really sorry to hear about this hiccup, Hannah.

If you have your heart set on it, and you think it will look ok, I would go with the vision you have in your head. Perhaps if you are having them but not lit, speak with the venue coordinator and assure them you know the rules against open flames and explain you will have the candles but not light them.

To be honest, I would be worried that a wedding guest would see a candle not lit, think it was missed and kindly light it for you with a lighter they have to hand, but you could always trim the wicks too far down so as to prevent this.

Have you trialed the centerpieces with the candles included and not lit? How did it look to you?

I'm 3 weeks away from my wedding and this exact thing just happened to me! I'm curious what you did? Do you have photos?

    Thank you!

Hi Olivia! It actually turned out beautifully! I don’t think I even had one thought of wishing the candles were lit throughout the whole day. I wish I hadn’t stressed so much about it lol. Here are a few photos to give you an idea of what it looked like.

Your photos turned out so beautiful!! I love the look of tapered candles, but fear that they will fall over a lot easier than other candles and drips!

This is kinda late, but that turned out great! And you do look stunning by the way. I’m actually a huge fan of tapered candles, and I typically buy from this shop. I personally love using them to complement centrepieces with beautiful candleholders whenever I organise our family events at our house. They are a classic choice that can make any reception look better. The ones you got looked great on those brass candleholders too!
