Unique and affordable décor ideas for a small wedding – need your creative thoughts!

Nicole, on January 23, 2026 at 11:32 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 5

Hi everyone! 😊

I’m currently planning décor for a small wedding on a modest budget and I’d love to hear what has worked for you or what you’ve seen that really impressed you.

A few things I’m thinking about:

• Creative ways to decorate without spending a fortune

• DIY décor projects that look elegant and not “cheap”

• Ideas for combining simple flowers, lighting, and signage

• Any Pinterest/Instagram boards you found especially inspiring

We’ve all seen tons of glam weddings, but I’m curious about real-life ideas that are easy to execute and look beautiful in photos. 💐✨

Thanks in advance for your ideas — excited to brainstorm with you all! 💛

Start with a couple theme ideas and color schemes. You might find lantern style objects that could hold some floral styles inside it. Find twigs to put around the bases.

Go through the hobby and craft stores. See what catches your eye, especially if it fits a theme that you are developing.

Also, check the do-it-yourself section here to see what others have done.

Small weddings are perfect for keeping things simple and intentional. I’ve seen a lot of beautiful setups using candles, greenery, and a few statement pieces instead of lots of decor everywhere. Things like bud vases with seasonal flowers, string lights, and reused signage (ceremony - reception) photograph really well without costing much. DIY works best when it’s minimal - fewer items done well rather than a lot of projects. Thrifted frames, table numbers, and linens can also make a big difference on a budget.

For our small wedding, we focused on warmth and intention instead of lots of décor. We used candles, fairy lights, and string lights to create a cozy glow. Greenery and seasonal flowers from a local market were inexpensive and photographed beautifully.

Facebook often has wedding resale items, like lanterns and terrariums. The Dollar Tree has started carrying some lanterns, as well. A center lantern with flowers and tiny twinkling lights is quite lovely. What colors are you using and do you have a theme or unifying concept? Incorporating that into your tables is a good way to keep things cohesive even if you use different materials or lighting on the tables. If you live near a university, you might be able to find a student in the art or graphic design department who can make your signs for cheap.
    Best of luck!
