Ugh seating chart.... 4 people to 8 person table...

BunBuns, on May 18, 2013 at 9:44 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 18

Ahh I can't find a solution.

We have 8 tables that seat 8 people each...

Table 1: 8 people (us/friends)

Table 2: 7 people (my fam)

Table 3: 8 people (FH fam)

Table 4: 7 people (FH fam)

Table 5: 6 people (FH fam's friends)

Table 6: 7 people (my/FH friends)

Table 7: 6 people (my friends)

Table 8: 4 people (my friends) *** ugh anyone else have this issue???

Do the four people at table 8 have to sit together? If not, move 2 to table 5 and two to table 7.

Another option is to see if your venue has one table that is larger, and put 10 people at Table 7, eliminating table 8.

@Kathy, I believe table 8 would like to sit together. These are two of my high school friends and their husbands.

Table 5 are friends of FH's family... so they would not want to go there! lol

A lot of people do not care if they sit with the brides friends or the grooms. :-)

I think your option may be to either make Table 7 larger, and putting these four friends there, or doing a smaller four person table for them. The larger table (Table 7) would look better.

    That is tough.

Who is seated at the 2 tables of 8? Anyone who you could put with the high school friends to make 2 more tables of 6 instead?

Lol I think my friends would think it would be weird to end up sitting with a bunch of old people they don't know though... FH and I barely know these friends of his fam.

I think the place only has 8 person tables, but we will inquire about this when we see them later this week!

@MrsO: my sister and her FH is at table 1 (our table) and she does know table 8 very well (went to HS with them too), but she is my sister (and FH is very close to her FH), so it's important to us that that they sit at our table.

The other people at table 1 don't know table 8 people.

Table 3 is FH family, so they don't know anything about the people at table 8.

Combine tables 7 & 8 since they're all your friends anyways?

Is there any way that you could do 10 at a table instead of 8? Then you could combine 7 & 8.

At our venue we had tables that were considered to seat 8-10 people. Heck, because of a last minute addition we had to squeeze 11 in at one table (because it was the only place for that person that made sense) which stressed me the hell out, but our caterer assured us that they had done that before and it would be fine and it was. They were a little tight, but they all fit. Our other couple tables of 10 were fine.

Maybe talk to your caterer and find out if only 8 actually fits or if that is just their recommended number.

@Cheetah2B, yeah that would be perfect, but I don't thnk they have tables that seat 10. We are going over last minute details there this week, so we will need to ask about it.

MrsO: having one table that could 10 would solve our seating issues! We would probably actually reassign tables 6-8 because table 7 doesn't know 8, but part of 6 does.. lol

Hmm...this does look like it would be a hard one. Can you shift other tables around by taking four from one table and splitting them to put at 5 and 7, that way your friends can still be together but at another table?

I'd talk to your venue/caterer and see if it's possible. They might just say 8 because that is their preferred/recommended set up for spacing and whatnot, but an extra 2 settings could very well fit.

One of the first things our caterer told us is that people would much rather have a little less room and be seated with people they know/will have a good time with than have more room and be seated with people they won't know/have a good time with. I think a table of 4 would feel awkward (to those guests and the overall feel of the room) so it might be worth it to squeeze them in somewhere else if physically possible.

MrsO: We actually just need to be able to fit nine into one table because we would convert Table 6 to a nine person and Table 7 to an eight person by a rearrangement that would make so much sense.

We will def ask/see this week when we visit what the potential would be to put 9 to a people. If this isn't an option though, I don't know what we will do!

I can't imagine that 9 wouldn't work at a table. I think it you can do that, you'd definitely have your solution!

I am betting that nine per table will work for your venue. It will all work out.

Yes, it would be perfect! Table 7 is my sorority sisters and their dates, but one of the girls is not extremely close to the others. It would be better to move her to Table 6 and then combine the rest of Table 7 with Table 8! Ahhh I hope we can see the tables when we go this week. I've never actually seen the venue. FH booked it by himself! The caterer/venue owner suggested we stop by this week to finalize before our wedding next Saturday, so I am excited I get to see it beforehand!

We are renting larger tables that fit 12 people at them and are doing long tables too. Can you get a larger table? My caterer said we can put more people at a table with the chiavari chairs, which we have.

Combining those two tables where all your friends(the ten) could sit together. if your worried about the size ofthe table, you could rent a bigger table like a 72"
