Typical Wedding Cost for Vineyard Wedding in Northern VA/Maryland Area?!

Ashlee , on July 29, 2015 at 7:33 PM Posted in Planning 1 10

What has everyone else's budget been for EVERYTHING for a wedding at a vineyard or a similar venue? I feel like my budget may be too low for this area/my ideas.

I'm sure others will have more specific info for you, but here's what I can share...

I live in Alexandria, but my family's mostly in Baltimore, and friends in NOVA/DC, so I looked at a few vinyards and barns in NOVA and MD, but nearly everything was out of my price range. I had a $12k budget, came in at $13k in the end, and that was for 80 people with a $900 venue cost (Union Mills Homestead, MD, barn wedding).

All the venues I looked at were $****+. A friend of a friend came in at $18k, with most everything DIY so if you're thinking about 'name brand' wineries that specialize in weddings, I think you need a $20-25k budget, depending on how many people you have.

I'd consider looking at smaller vinyards that may not have the big name, or the big house on the hill, but have beautiful vistas - there is a map you can get from a VA tourist center, or in most independent wine sellers, that is a "Wine Tour Map" of all the hundreds of wineries in NOVA, and they'll tell you which ones host weddings. (Unwined wine shop in Alexandria and Bellvue have the maps, if either of those are close for you.) I've been to some that are really pretty with rolling hills and near big parks that would make lovely weddings... where as at one of the big-name wineries, the wedding party was literally standing on this pile of rocks next to picnic tables with people drinking wine , and the guests seats were along the edge of the parking lot, which I thought was weird! Maybe take a day and drive to some of the smaller ones and check them out.

Try Bluemont. I believe they're slightly cheaper. But they tend to be expensive. Bluemont allows liquor - a lot of wineries do not. Some will depend on your caterer. We vetoed any we looked at immediately due to the cost or restrictions.

Sunset Hills does a lovely wedding but - pricey.

We live in the metro area. We decided to go to bethany beach,de. Its a bed and breakfast includes everything but the dj and photographer. Open bar for 65 people for 13k. Everything around here is crazy expensive.

I looked in to over 40 wineries between Gainesville and Leesburg and most are quite expensive. Our budget is around 7000 and just booked Blue Valley Vineyard and Winery in Delplane. They just opened in April so their venue rental prices are reasonable and their view is unlike anything around(truly stunning). But with that being said, I'm still waiting to hear back from their preferred caterers and that part I'm a little nervous about.

Depending on if you go with one of the smaller/newer wineries or one of the more established ones it could be anywhere from 7-20,000. Good luck!

It definitely depends on the vineyard! I've been to incredibly gorgeous weddings at the northern VA wineries - so I understand the appeal! - and while some can definitely be pricey, I'd definitely suggest checking out their pages on WW to get a better idea of the price ranges. As @Rebecca suggested, try looking at some smaller wineries that might not have the big name recognition, but are just as lovely in terms of the atmosphere and view.
