Two weddings to please everyone?

Jennifer, on June 17, 2019 at 2:13 PM Posted in Planning 0 11
My fiancee and I are planning to be married in Vegas December 19th but his family (my family and my children have already made arrangements for Vegas) states that they cannot afford to make it because it's so close to Christmas. It has been suggested that we have two ceremonies or have a second reception that everyone local can attend. Any advice would be MUCH appreciated.

Totally up to you! Due to costs for us and guests, we invited only 15 guests to a DW 8 hours away (mostly family), then had a local reception three months later. Totally fun to celebrate TWICE.

What questions do you have??? Quite a few couples here have done this and I'm sure will be happy to share ideas/tips.

It's really up to you and your budget. I'm sure that scheduling a destination wedding so close to Christmas, you planned for there to be some declines and decided that it was more important to get married in Vegas 6 days before Christmas than to have everyone there. So is it really all that important to you to get everyone together to celebrate?

If you can afford a reception at home, and want to do one, I think that's fine!

We chose to do a small intimate ceremony with a party with friends/family a couple of weeks later. If you're good with having 2 celebrations I see no issue with it! I personally am choosing not to have 2 ceremonies but we thought a second reception sounded like a blast as it was important for us to have a celebration with our friends/family who aren't invited to the ceremony!

Personally I wouldn't do two ceremonies....but a local reception could be a nice compromise.

I guess I have a hard time understanding why do people do a reception that much later on-why 3 months later? I think I am more "for" the second reception but how do you keep things simple yet elegant? After looking at costs, the wedding and reception in Vegas is going to be more inexpensive than the reception alone afterwards

Considering that this is going to be his first wedding I want to make it special-but at the same time my family has already made arrangements to be in Vegas. Accommodating everyone has become critical and all I have is a bunch of anxiety over pleasing everyone. His immediate family has already said they can't come-how to find balance and not break the bank rate my biggest concerns...

It's totally ok to do a casual local reception! Cake & punch only. Or maybe catered BBQ or sandwiches & platters from a local market. You can have it anytime after your wedding...generally up to a year after your wedding.

We wanted a very formal local reception. We waited three months because we did so much DIY for both we were exhausted. Due to stress, my hubby and I were sick for nearly a month. We actually wished we spaced the two events 4-6 months apart to give us a break in between.

Hi Jennifer! Have you made a decision about what you will do? Will there be 2 weddings?

I THINK (don't quote me on this as I'm liable to change my mind-it's what us women do best) we are going to just have the one wedding in Vegas. We are looking to buy a home with hopes of moving in around the same time also so I am thinking that we will do a second informal celebration of sorts as our new life and housewarming party.
