Two Wedding Bands?

Private User, on March 31, 2015 at 12:06 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 25

I was at a cocktail party this weekend and I was in discussion about wedding bands. I am actually in the wedding industry and I have never heard of "two" wedding bands. One of my friends told me that I should receive a wedding band on my wedding day and another when I have a child.

Can someone please explain this history behind this? Is this a new trend?

I've heard of "push" gifts when you have a child your husband buys you a gift. I think it's generally jewelry but didn't know it specifically was another band. Although, I think this is a newer trend as a whole.

I'm thinking it's new. A friend of mine who got married last year has two bands. I'm thinking of getting another eventually, but one is annoying enough

Some people have two because some rings look more balanced with two. The child thing, I don't know the history, but I know that some people liked the idea of three rings (e-ring for love, wedding band for marriage, third ring for the "baby carriage") And now it's popular to have a "push present".... I don't really get push presents, but to each their own...

I think its a newer thing too. one of my best friends got a new band for an anniversary. I kinda like the idea of adding a band after children and incorporating birthstones so it could be kind of like a family ring... does it matter the order on your finger? i wouldn't want too many because a finger can only hold so many ha! But i definitely wouldn't turn some nice jewelry after a baby- but i think the REAL present is the baby!

I'll have 2 because the original wedding guard is just too much for me to wear on a daily basis (it's an heirloom). So we're having a smaller simpler band made to wear every day.

My father gave my mom a ring when she popped out my older brother, but it wasn't another band, it was a completely separate emerald ring

I plan on having two bands, but only because two bands look better with my engagement ring, rather than one.

I have 2 bands, both are very skinny and the engagement ring has a loop design, It looked odd with just one.

I have two bands with my e-ring but it has no meaning besides it just looked good with my e-ring. However someone FH works with buys his wife a diamond wedding/anniversary band everytime they have a child (I think they have three) and she wears them on her right hand. FH thinks it's cool and says he wants to do that for me. I can't say I'm disappointed haha

I just like stacking. I don't think it's a tradition, as much as personal choice. I have 2 wedding bands. One is a diamond band that matches my e-ring and the other is a tungsten band that matches my DH's wedding band.

I had two made to fit my ring for a perfect balance. Had them make the two into a wrap so when we get married, all my rings stay together. I'm not sure about the child thing. Mine is person preference.

If you get the second one when you give birth, then isn't it a baby band, not a wedding band?

I've heard of anniversary bands--I think some people wear them in addition to their wedding band and e-ring instead of using it as an "upgrade" from their wedding band.

People like jewelry! It's a nice way to mark life events, whether it's for an anniversary, a push present, or some other milestone. I wouldn't call it a "tradition," though.

One of my friends who has been married less than a year has one that she's had since her wedding day and a top one that she is getting on their one year anniversary. I think the anniversary band is more common than receiving a new band when you have your first child.

I knew an elderly couple. Every 10 years, he'd add another good-sized diamond to her ring. I don't remember now if it was her engagement ring or wedding ring.

I heard of another husband who gave his wife 2-caret diamond earrings for having twins!

FH and I were shopping for wedding bands last week and the jeweler suggested this to me. My engagement ring is a classic white gold band with a solitaire diamond. Jeweler suggested I try one very thin diamond band on the bottom of my engagement ring, and one on the top. I wasn't sure when he first suggested it, but thought it looked great on. My only hesitation about going this route is the logistics of how layering the wedding bands with the engagement ring will work during our ceremony.

I can't see how it could be called a 'wedding ring', since it wasn't part of the wedding, but I'm with everyone else-- probably started by the jewelry industry to sell more jewelry, and someone wants it, what do I care? Before this I'd never heard of it.
