Two MOHs, Who does the speech?

Jersey, on August 20, 2015 at 10:59 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 37

So, I have two MOHs-- my best friend and my sister. My best friend just asked me if she would be giving a speech. I told her that I actually don't know and that I would get back to her! Obviously this is a long way away, but I think she just wanted to know my expectations of her on that day.

So to other brides who have two MOHs, who is doing the speech?

I was the 2nd MOH at my bestfriends wedding and we both gave speeches plus her sister was Matron of honor so there were 4 speeches total (Bestman, MOHx2, Matron of Honor)

I had two MOHs both of them did speeches. I let them know two minutes tops for speeches and it worked great.

If both are MOHs, they should both be given the honor of doing a speech/toast. Ask them to keep it under a certain time limit (3-5 mins or under).

I dont care which one gives the toast, my MOH will most likely do it. I asked my Matron of honor (twin sis) if she wanted to and she was unsure. So I'll just let whoever wants to, or neither.

Both should give a speech. Obviously ask if they want to, and if one declines then don't, but you should do both. I was just matron of honor in my sister's wedding and her kindergarden bestie was her maid- I would have felt slightly hurt if she wouldn't have asked me TBH.

My both my best friend (maid of honor) and sister (matron of honor) are giving speeches. I told them to try to keep it under 2 minutes each though!

Yikes, are we supposed to be asking people to give speeches? I know it's tradition, but I thought that the BM and MOHs were supposed to offer?

Awh, okay! thanks ladies. So, I think I will just tell both of them that I would be honored if they gave a speech, but the choice is theirs!

If they tell me that they want to give a speech, I'll let them know to keep it short since there will be 2.

I second all the advice above. We had two MOHs and two best men and they each split the speech. They wrote them together. (Not all four, but each pair.)

I have two MOHs. One of them is extremely uncomfortable speaking in public, so her sister will do the speech while she stands with her.

I was just thinking about this last weekend while I was figuring out how to ask my bridal party to be in the wedding. I'm in the same boat - my sister and best friend will both be maid of honors! So thanks for asking the question Smiley smile

Both of mine are doing a speech. They will both be short. If they want to give one, let them go ahead and do it.

Both of mine are doing speeches as well.

Also I chose to have my speeches done during the rehearsal dinner instead of at the reception.

My sister and my best friend are my maids of honor. My mother was super upset that I'm having two but I don't care. She thinks my friend will try to overrule my sister so this is how I'm splitting their duties up for everything so they both feel included.

    1. Both give speeches under 2 minutes

    2. My sister will stand next to me during the ceremony holding bouquet

    3. My friend is signing marriage license as witness

    4. Sitting next to my friend during reception at the head table (sister will be next to her)

    5. My sister offered to throw my shower

    6. Friend offered to throw bachelorette party

They both feel included and they have enough stuff to do to keep them busy and off each other's toes.

I find myself in a similar boat. I have a Matron of Honor and a Man of Honor, and FH has two best men. We recently went to a wedding where there were SIX speeches...and though each one was lovely on its own, at the end I was threatening to not allow speeches at all! Lol. It was wayyyyyyyy too much! It's a super awkward situation, but ideally I just want two speeches, so eventually we'll have to choose. I'm secretly hoping someone will just say they'd really rather not give a speech and solve the problem for me! Lol #wishfulthinking

I have a Matron and a Maid of Honor, and they are both my sisters. They wanted to do one together and I'm cool with that!
