I would feel really iffy about checking my wedding gown. I think a better idea would be to mail it to yourself if possible. If you can, overnighting it to the hotel you’re staying at with insurance would be a much more comfortable decision. However, with international travel that may be difficult and you don’t want it to get caught up in customs. I would call the airline and see if you can check it at the gate, or if they have another procedure for delicate things such as wedding gowns.

    Hey there Aleaj Smiley smile

I would recommend you reach out to the airline you plan on flying with and see what their policy is around travelling with a wedding dress. They may require it to be checked, or have a special place where you can store it onboard.

In the past, I’ve heard of air hostesses taking a dress and storing it in their own luggage area to keep it safe during flights Smiley smile

My wife had to travel with the wedding dress as well. We were advised to take it on board as opposed to checking it in. They couldn't guarantee the condition of the dress if it would have been checked in.

    What did we do?

Well we placed it on our laps during the flight and made sure it didn't get ruined. We asked if there was a closet to store it but they told us that they did not. We were on a small plane however. It's possible a bigger plane will have a closet were you can store it.

Oh, and yes, the dress traveled well and did not get ruined at all!
