Trash the Dress - your thoughts?

Maribel , on July 3, 2014 at 11:58 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 56

So I'm considering doing a trash the dress shoot either on our trip to an awesome beach somewhere or even as like 1 year anniversary thing.. Anyone do one? Or planning on doing one? Smiley smile Some people are like why?! Why don't you donate it? Or preserve it? Because it's MY dress and the pictures are awesome and I think it would be so fun!!

I REALLY love the idea of the trash the dress shoots. I don't know if I could though! I spent so much money on this damn thing that I'd rather resell it lol. I think FH would have a heart attack if I suggested it!

I personally hate this idea. There are so many brides who can barely afford a license and the choice to throw away a gorgeous dress because the photos would be cool just seems very selfish.

But then, I'm pragmatic person; I hate waste. One of the brides here led me to RepeatRoses, a group that makes it possible for couples to donate their 'leftover' flowers to nursing homes, hospitals and other institutions. I'm so grateful for that connection because I know my brides and grooms are going to love the idea.

But hey, it's your dress, your money. Do what you want.

I'm not a big fan. I feel like its a lot of money to go throw into the ocean or splatter with paint. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with mine. One of my SIL's aunts actually made a beautiful dress for her granddaughter out of the mother's wedding dress. I'm definitely having a piece of mine made into a necklace for myself.

@Maribel, if it didn't cost you an arm and a leg then I say go for it!! Maybe save part of it as a keep sake? Like a sash or something when you're done. Smiley smile

I agree with Celia. Not my thing, and I would rather donate it,

Also be careful with bodies of water and your dress. Dependent on what kind of silhouette you get, they could be too heavy when completely submerged.

@celia I agree with you as well. And that is a great idea to donate what you can and maybe even the dress.

Oh I will definitely save a piece of my dress to make something out of it! And yes I've read on the SAFETY and PRECAUTIONS of diving into the ocean with a giant dress on!! lol Smiley smile

Personally, I love the water shots and would absolutely consider it!!! Its my dress. I wouldn't donate it anyways (sorry everyone.....I know it sounds selfish but I personally want to keep my dress). I would get it cleaned after and keep it to show my daughters someday.

I don't think I could bring myself to do it - LOVE the idea, and power to you if you can do it.

I am using a piece of my mom's wedding dress on my bouquet, so that's convinced me to keep it boxed up for my daughter(s) in case they want to do the same. If not, Ebay!

Didn't mean to sound mean, lol! But some of the comments also reminded me that many of my brides have lace from their moms' dresses on their bouquets or use some of the material for Christening gowns. I even had a couple use part of the groom's mom's dress as the top of the chuppah.

I'm doing a trash the dress photo shoot after the wedding but I'm not jumping in water or anything. I'm going to wear it to take pics w my dog and wear it at the gym where we workout. Me and my FH have worked really hard to look our best on our day and I want to take pics at the place where it all happened.

I don't care for the Trash the Dress thing, and I paid less than $200 for mine. Some would say trashing it would be fun, but it seems more like a trend or wasteful to me.

I think photos are great to have, but I'm more inclined to use photos from the wedding, not have photos up of me in the dress doing messy things.

Mine is going to be so chopped up, it won't be worth much afterward, so I'm thinking about doing it! The pics under the pier are awesome!

    DO IT!!!

I feel opposite of the Knox2015.

Tell me what you are going to do with your dress after your wedding. I actually can alter mine and wear it again, but I want to do trash the dress pics first and then alter the dress (it's a slip/lace dress).

i think photos are worth it!

Just because some people can't afford the marriage license doesn't mean I shouldn't be able to have fun with my wedding dress. I bought it with my money and what happens to it after the wedding is my choice and doesn't make me selfish.

Basically what I'm saying is, life isn't fair and it's not always the fault of those more fortunate.
