Trash the Dress - your thoughts?

So I'm considering doing a trash the dress shoot either on our trip to an awesome beach somewhere or even as like 1 year anniversary thing.. Anyone do one? Or planning on doing one? Some people are like why?! Why don't you donate it? Or preserve it? Because it's MY dress and the pictures are...

I love TTD pictures. Idk it is nice to donate, but at the same time if you are paying so much for something I think you should do what you want with it. I am putting mine in a shadow box.

    This ^

The whole "You don't deserve fun because there are those out there who can't afford it" mantra is stupid.

Edit: Plus, how ironic would it be if the person you donate the dress to decides to trash it. Ha.

I am totally pro Trash The Dress shoots and am even considering one as well! I think the pictures I have seen from the shoots are amazing and would love to do it, I just have to grow some bridal balls to do so with mine!

I know people like to hold onto them for such reasons as their daughter will one day where it, but there is always the chance I will have only boys (it wont happen, but theres a chance! :-) ) or when the day comes that I have a daughter that is getting married, I want her to experience the feeling that I did when I found my dress and enjoy finding hers, not feel obligated because I have held onto this (likely out of date) dress for 20 something years.

And I agree with SunshineJenn about it not being selfish...don't hold things against me or blame me because I am able to provide for myself the things in life that I want. I worked very hard to get to where I am now and I refuse to feel guilty because I want to jump in the water wearing my wedding dress

@Maltese I hope you decide to do it! I would love to see some. I am not doing it just because I am overly emotional and would just love to be able to show my children (future children :p) the parts of my wedding. Not expect anyone to wear it but just so they can see it and laugh at me.

I love the idea but I don't think I'd have the guts to do it. I'm totally for doing another shoot with FH and I in our wedding clothes after the wedding in like...a garden or something. I wouldn't have to be worried about getting the dress dirty. But an actual TTD...probably not. Haha.

I think they look cool but I gave my dress to another bride who needed a dress and liked mine. I didn't need it anymore. I'd rather she enjoy it. And I didn't check her tax returns or anything, she very well may have been able to afford her own dress. But there was no point in preserving it forever for me. I did keep my sash so any future daughters could have a part of it if they want. Also after paying for a wedding, I wasnt going to pay another photographer!

To each their own. I spent a lot of $$$ on my dress and plan on selling it for half the cost to help another bride on a tight budget like I once was.

The only reason I'm doing one is because my photographer has assured me that you don't have to literally TRASH your dress. It's more the opportunity to go somewhere beautiful with your new husband, like the beach or the mountains or wherever, and take pictures together. She told me she did it at the beach in San Francisco, and, after dry-cleaning her gown, it was perfect again. I was totally against the idea, because I assumed that the dress would be ruined afterwards, but now I'm excited because it means I get to wear my dress twice and will still be able to preserve or donate it later if I want to.

I'm usually not into trashing the dress but the top photo you posted is SO cute. So maybe I'll think about it. I haven't gotten a dress yet so I guess it depends on the cost

Love those pics, and the idea of a 1yr anniversary thing. Bought my dress used so it wasnʻt a fortune or a once-used couture gown.

Glad I got some of you guys to consider it! Kirsten Michelle I completely agree with you on the whole feeling bad to do it when someone else can't afford their own. Jenna I didn't even think about having it dry cleaned! that's a good idea too! it's a win win situation!! Smiley smile

I'd do it! Don't fit into my dress right now but maybe by our 1st anniversary Smiley smile You can always dry clean it! Besides, not like anyone else is going to wear it!

No. I don't know what I would do with all those pics anyway. There is only so much wall space to hang them.

I personally wouldn't do it, but it doesn't mean I have anything against those who do chose to do it. I would rather make some nice lingerie out of my dress, or try and re-sell it. Or maybe keep it!

I like the pictures but FH's words were "whats the point" so we won't be doing one!

Unless I can talk him into taking some that won't trash the dress, just get it dirty, like riding horses bareback!

I'd rather re-sell my gown so I can recoup the money, or give it to charity, than trash it. It took a chunk of time and money to get this dress that I liked.

I have two dresses, I might *trash* one and donate the other. I'm a breast cancer survivor, so I'd give it to http://www.bridesagainstbreastcancer.org/. Or maybe I'll donate them both.

I can't imagine doing those things in regular clothes, let alone my wedding dress. Not for me!
