Shawna, on September 15, 2012 at 11:19 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 18

Did you? didn't you? If so, how much? Our flowers are coming to 1675, she is retired and does this as her own little business....

I'm not saying this is right, but we didn't. It went to the category of a professional who charged whatever fee they though was adequate compensation for their services. They did ask (nicely) if I would write reviews, and I did. On multiple websites. I'm not sure how much that counts, but just sayin'.

    I don't think I would...

Flowers are already so expensive. I am not sure, I don't think you need to.

If you absolutely feel you want to, I wouldn't tip more than 10%.

Mrs. S, nice reviews count a LOT. If a review generates more new weddings, that's a lot more money than a couple could "tip."

Nancy, I know. It's just that reviews and tips are not mutually exclusive.

I guess I'm still trying to figure out the whole tipping thing, even a year after :-) But we tipped the officiant over the top, because VA has bizarre regulations for how much they can charge. We didn't tip the photographer, but did tip the MUA...

I wrote great reviews for all of them. So I guess I'm just trying to make sense of it :-)

The only way I would tip is if she had a delivery person deliver them to the church etc. I am not tipping vendors. I would tip a server and we are hiring private servers who will get a set wage which is way more than the minimum wage.

I guess I feel bad because she is only charging us at cost for the centrepieces (while 1675 sounds like a lot, I have a feeling it could have been much worse had we gone with a business in our big city)

Something to mull over, thanks ladies!

I would not and will not. They are already being payed for their services.

Anywho, what were you going to tip them? If you tipped them 15%, it would be a little over $250.....for them just doing their job.

I didn't. I guess I kinda viewed flowers/florists as "goods" and not service, therefore not requiring a tip. Their markup that they charge covers the service that they put in in designing the arrangements. As far as delivery goes, a substantial fee was paid for the delivery as well.

I also tip people for "above and beyond" service and our florist did their job and did it well, but nothing was done above and beyond the call of duty.

I would. I'm in floristry class and have seen the pain, labor, and time it takes to make one centerpiece perfect. I had to make a round centerpiece last night; it suuuuuuuuucked. I have so much more respect for florists now...

Even if it's 5%, it will totally make her day.

Shawna, if she's only charging you for the cost of the flowers and not for her time, a generous tip or a gift would be in line. Is she a friend or family member?

Nancy-that's where stuck. She's a cottage neighbor of FH's parents. And because the centerpieces are being done at cost I am not sure what to do.

If she is giving you a deal (st cost for centerpieces) I would give her $50 or something. I don't plan on tipping my florist as I am paying full price for everything and they are already charging an arm and a leg.

I'm not, but only because there is already a 15% service charge included in the total cost. If I was paying for cost only then I's probably include a tip.

Unless the florist (or vendor) go ABOVE and BEYOND noticiably, they get what the contract stipulates.....
