To SPANX or NOT????

FutureMrs2011, on December 20, 2010 at 9:23 PM Posted in Planning 0 25

Hi Ladies....so I am wearing a mermaid style dress (which I love). But anyway, has anyone worn Spanx under their wedding gown? I keep hearing how great they are, but I have also heard they can get hot, and with a satin dress, I am thinking that would be a disaster. What do yall think? The only reason I am wanting to wear it is to make sure my tummy looks as flat as possible.....

I wore Spanx with mine. And I really think it helped my size 18 self look less, well, lumpy. But it really depends on your figure and your dress. I'd try both ways, and see.

WEAR SPANX! Some of the cheap crappy knock off can gt hot and roll down, etc. Get a good pair! I wear some all the time.

I've worn things that do this, but aren't that brand. I don't know much about Spanx, but the ones I have are really hard to go to the bathroom in. Super big pain, so I usually only wear the corset ones that only go around the waist. Sometimes they get uncomfortable and poke you…ahhh, what we do to hide the flaws! But if everyone says to used them I say at least try them out.

I bought spanx for my mermaid dress. I had all intentions of wearing them, but honestly it wasn't comfortable and it didn't suck me in enough to be worth it (and I bought the expensive ones). Since it was summer and hot, I went commando. lol

I have a pair of spanx and all they do is roll down. I do not see the point to them?

I'm actually on the fence as well. Going to see if I can borrow a friends for a fitting and see how I like it and then I might go out and buy a pair of my own!

Maybe you can have the seamstress sew in a corset type thing on the inside of the dress? That would be so much better and more comfortable in my opinion. I got my dress this weekend and it includes that inside part so it was a HUGE selling point for me. Smiley smile I wouldn't want to worry about any spandex rolling around in weird ways or being uncomfortable on the big day. I'm also going to have the seamstress sew a bra right into the dress so it doesn't pop out.

Thought about getting a pair but ordinarily I don't like any foundation garments so don't think I should start on the day of the wedding. I'm going to skip it.

What about Body Magic? I hear they are supposed to be comfortable. At least you're wanting to look your best. Not having the pooch makes a difference indeed!

I would suggest a 2 piece (strapless, corset style) and then the bottoms. I recently wore my one piece under a dress - which sucks in the tummy, has a strapless bra on top and shorts on bottom. Everything was great until I needed to go to the bathroom. I couldn't just lift-up the dress and go b/c the spanx-ish thing went all the way up to my boobs. Just a word of warning! Good luck! :-)

My dress had a sating skirt with no embellishments so I wore something like this to smooth out my silhouette. I found it to be comfortable. I'd do what some of the other ladies are suggesting and try out a pair, see how you like it, if it's comfy, and if it's hard to go to the bathroom in.

I plan on wearing my spanx under my mermaidish dress. I wore them under a bridesmaid dress before and the definately made a difference. Except they do get really hot and squeeze you in.

Spanx is so ugly and uncomfortable. Try DuMi Shapewear. I wore their hi-waisted brief under my dress... it had clear straps (removable) to make 100% sure it didn't roll down. It was very slimming, easy to go to the bathroom in, and also comfortable. It was actually pretty, for what it was-- with my long line bra, my husband thought i looked pretty cute! They do have other styles, that are a lot sexier, too. You can get it at www.du-mi.com

Spanx suck IMO. I went to JC Penney's about 2 years ago and found something similar to what Konichiwa has but mine comes up higher and sits right under the bust. They are comfy as heck, cheaper and they work. I think spanx is made for those with a little pooch and hell even with 60lbs weight loss I still didn't want em.

I think I am going to get a pair and try them. I'm just concerned that I won't be able to go to the bathroom if needed...I don't want to have to take my dress off to use the bathroom, that would be crazy! But I also don't want to be looking a hot mess in my dress! So it may be worth it. It's not like my stomach is huge, but I could def use the extra support to hold it in!!!

@ TeeDub I have heard of Body Magic and know people that wear them, but they are EXPENSIVE!!
