To shove or not to shove?

My late night question, then I'm off to bed After cutting the cake, do people still shove the piece of cake in their partners face? Out of the weddings we've been to, I think I have only seen it once. I'm not saying I'm for it or against it; I'm just curious if people don't do it anymore, or if...

My late night question, then I'm off to bed Smiley smile After cutting the cake, do people still shove the piece of cake in their partners face? Out of the weddings we've been to, I think I have only seen it once. I'm not saying I'm for it or against it; I'm just curious if people don't do it anymore, or if maybe it happens more frequently in other regions, etc.

ETA: I guess I'll just add that I wouldn't be too happy if FH did it to me. I mean, how much am I spending on makeup and hair just to have sugary stuff caked (no pun intended) on me too?

    I won't be partaking in this, can't guarantee that FH won't try it though. Hopefully not, I will express my distaste for it and request that he refrain from it. I am fine with us feeding each other a bite, but I don't want cake smashed in my face for the many reasons already sighted.

    I am definitely going to shove cake in his face and he will probably do it to me too. But we are just those kind of people lol Smiley smile

    @Brittany - you're absolutely right. This is one of the reasons the idea of "breaking bread" with others is so powerful and lasting as an image and a concept.

    For our wedding, we didn't even tell people we were cutting the cake - we snuck away from the crowd to do it quietly with the photographer, and we fed it to each other happily but respectfully. Honestly, seeing it as a way to acknowledge your partnership - that you will support, care for, and nurture them - I couldn't imagine shoving it in my DH's face. I'm not opposed to a dab of icing on the nose in a playful way, as Emily mentions.

    No No shoving for us! FH made that very clear to me (and I totally agreed). The icing on each other's noses might be cute and sweet - that's a great alternative @Emily!

    I already warned FH that he better not. He agreed with me. I said I'm paying for hair and makeup, so it's a no. I'm glad he felt the same way as me.

    ETA: @rebecca that is such a beautiful picture. I love it!!!!

    Even if I was okay with having something shoved in my face, I wouldn't disrespect cake like that, and neither would FH. We really like cake.

    I've never liked this idea. I told FH not to even think of smashing cake in my face, or else he'll get the same in return. Plus, he's a very respectable guy so I don't feel he would ever do it anyway. But, I do like the idea of dabbing the tip of his nose with frosting and rubbing our two noses together afterward. I think it would be cute for a photo. No, I never actually seen any couple do this at any of the weddings I've attended.

    I HATE this and think it's tacky. I was telling FH last night that I don't want him to do this. He said that he heard it's also a tradition to eat cake off your spouse's toe! THATS DISGUSTING!! He might have just been messing with my head because I hate feet...

    @Rebecca Very sweet picture!

    @DoubleJ haha love it! That reminds me of FH too! He works out and eats healthy but still LOVES his sweets. It might have to do with sweets being banned as a kid because his mom is a dental hygienist lol

    I never seen it done. I personally find it distasteful and disrespectful.

    I did not want to, and I told DH not to, but he full on smashed me! I literally found cake in my dress later that night. I don't recommend that, but our guests thought it was fantastic. My mother in law literally had to clean the cake off my face.

    But in the last three weddings I was at, they did "smash the cake" just not as extreme as DH did.
