To Glove or not to Glove?

Sabrina, on August 4, 2011 at 11:24 AM Posted in Planning 0 14

We are having a vintage-y wedding... my dress is strapless and i have a Birdcage veil and I keep seeing vintage weddings with the bride wearing gloves... sooo back to my question to glove...or not..... what are you doing? what do you think?

I think this is going to have to be your preference and style. I personally can't stand when brides wear gloves. MHO is that it's ugly. Sorry.

I think it largly depends on your personal style. For me personally it would look like I was playing dress up in my mom's closet. I've seen some women wear gloves with their gown and it really pulled the attire together beautifully. Others- it just looked like too much.

There are so many different styles of gloves out there... it's hard to say. I would recommend trying on some gloves with your dress and see how you feel about it. You may love it or you may think it takes away from everything else. :o)

I just think it's weird to put a ring on a gloved finger. It looks strange. But then... to take off your glove at the ring ceremony is equally awkward holding a limp white glove in one hand or handing said glove over to your MOH. I dunno...maybe it's just me, but the whole glove thing just irks me LOL.

I think it could look cute for pictures, but like Nicole B pointed out might be awkward/weird during the ceremony...

for a vintage feel, i love short gloves... maybe in lace that matches your dress?

I like gloves for winter weddings...it just depends on the whole look though. I also wear gloves on a daily basis so am very comfortable in them and dont think they look weird at all...so maybe my opinion is biase.

I agree that they could be really cute for pictures but not so good for the ceremony.

I think no for the ceremony (its hard with the whole ring thing) but it could look good in some photos

Although I have never seen them I have heard that you can get gloves specifically made for getting married. There is a slit in the material on the ring finger of the left glove and you slip the glove off that finger for the ring exchange. Also, you can take the gloves off and hand them to your MOH for the ring exchange. I've debate wearing gloves as well but haven't made a decision yet.

My vote is always for no gloves. As others mentioned, maybe for some photos, but definitely not part of the actual day-of ensemble, particularly during the ceremony.

I was gonna say no gloves at all, but then I agree that it would be nice for some pictures. But other than that, I'm just not a fan of gloves.

Guess I'm the only one who says GLOVES! Especially for your vintage wedding! Just wear them for some of the pics, not the ceremony. I'm wearing the lace gloves my grandmother wore on her wedding day for the pics only, not the ceremony.
