Tips for wedding with no planner or coordinator

Jasie, on April 2, 2020 at 1:13 AM Posted in Planning 0 4
FH and I picked a community center for our venue, and we won't have an onsite coordinator. And we can't afford to hire someone to fill this position.
So far planning is going great, but I'm worried about day of. Our families are helping with setup and cleanup, but any tips and advice would be very appreciated.

We had a day of so this isn’t from experience but the things I would say she helped the most with we’re handling vendors on the day (florist delivery, DJ set up etc), set up/break down and keeping us on schedule. Maybe you could ask a friend or family member to be the point of contact with the vendors and someone to keep the schedule? The last thing you want to be thinking about is the tiny details so would be easier to have an organised loved one help out. I would definitely recommend a day of if you can move your budget around at all so everyone can relax at the wedding but if not clear roles for loved ones will reduce some stress.

My fiancé’s cousin and his wife asked me to be they’re day of coordinator and I was honored. I helped with setup/ breakdown of the site, directing the guest in the designated location, coordinating with the ceremony processionals, wedding photos after the ceremony, coordinating the welcoming of the bridal party and making sure the DJ had all the right music and followed the timeline laid out for him. If you have someone important to you but don’t have a position I would ask them to do it.

I had a day of coordinator but he was only there legit for two hours to set up the reception. he wasn't there to actually do any coordinating during the reception. so my advice is to have someone remind you of when your schedule for events are or to keep an eye on timing so that you can do it. if you've got a DJ that really helps too because they can kind of help run thru the schedule.

I would do as much set up as you can the night before if you have access. Also there may be someone in your family with the skills needed to organize, coordinate and decorate that will lessen the load on you.
