Tipping for photobooth, pics, dj..etc.?

Jenn, on August 11, 2016 at 10:51 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 14

Since the prices are pretty high for most of the vendors do we still tip for location, food, flowers etc. The 20% tip on a 500 dollar photobooth or 3,000 dollar bill brings your costs back up ; (.

The only thing I would tip 20% on is your hair and make up artists.

Everyone else is whatever you want and if you want... 20% would be outrageous on all of your other vendors.

ETA: And the whole "dont tip because they own a business" thing...don't listen to it. If they went above and beyond and made your day special, tip them if you can. Doesn't matter if they own their own business or not. I hate whoever made up that internet rule.

We did $50 for photobooth, $100 for photographer, $100 for photographer assistant, $150 for dj, $150 for DOC, $50 for ceremony musicians, $100 for officiant

I don't think you need to tip on everything. From what I've read, if the vendor owns the business you do not need to tip - with the exception of MUA and hairstylist.

ETA: Tips are at your discretion. Just because you paid a photog $2k for their service does not mean they need to get a $400 tip. Most don't expect tips AT ALL, so anything will be appreciated!

@Mimitrue do you mind if I ask how much your officiant cost if you paid a $400 tip? My officiant costs $600, so I was planning on giving $100 or so.

I tipped my hair and makeup artist a little more than 25% I think. I tipped our photographer $100 and our officiant $50. That seemed to be right in line with the averages I found.

It's not expected so tip if you can and want to and what you can. It's very thoughtful and very much appreciated no matter how much.

    We had to

Tip at our venue $1000 due to their suggested 5% before tax and service. It was crazy!!! That didn't even include the dj,

Photographer, photo booth, etc. Thankfully we had known about this and had it on our budget. It was an extra $1600 total!

My bar has a 20% gratuity on top of all purchases which is knocking down the amount I can buy at the bar ; (

I have a question for tipping as well...should we tip that day? Or would sending a check in the mail also be ok? I was thinking of sending a check and a nice card to whoever in the mail. This is one of the last things on our list to figure out...

@KristenBeez we put the money in envelopes for each vendor and had our DOC hand them out for us. I wanted them tipped that day but Im sure tipping them after would be just fine as well as a nice surprise. We also wanted them tipped before they went home to work on our photos and video.

Out catering has a 10% tax and an 18% gratuity that is included. This is through our venue so we are just tipping our pastor and our DJ. Our pastor is doing our wedding for free though so he is going to get a pretty big "tip"

After a wonderful wedding photography experience, I was ready to throw all my money at the photographer. She's the owner of her own company, but I didn't care.

Our DJ, on the other hand, didn't get a tip at all. He was terrible. His tip money got re-allocated to the photographer.
