Timeline for a small wedding!

littlewed13, on April 26, 2013 at 2:03 PM Posted in Planning 0 6

OK, so I'm almost a month away from my small ~35 person wedding, and trying to put together a timeline for our photographer. It's harder than I thought!

I am mostly stuck on when we should expect to do the first dance, etc. I feel like with a small wedding it would feel silly to be "announced" when we enter the reception, since we will probably show up around the same time as most of our guests anyway and we wanted to be there for most of the cocktail hour... so that means the start of the reception won't really have a natural kickoff to the dances like a trad. reception would.

What do you guys think about this idea:

4:30-5:30 cocktails & appetizers

5:30/5:45ish dinner buffet put out, guests find their seats

6:30ish maid of honor toast, any other toasts (not sure who else might want to speak!). after her toast, maybe she could call us up to the dance floor for our dance? (we are using an iPod)

6:40ish first dance followed by parent dances

6:55ish back to drinking & dancing!

I think you should still get announced. That's part of the fun! You can have a parent or wedding party member do it at the beginning of the cocktail hour. I think the rest of the timeline seems fine

I thought you got announced at the reception not during the cocktail hour.

Your photographer should be able to provide you with a basic timeline of photos...

We had a small wedding (30) and still got announced. Our photographer gave US a timeline of everything. I mean you ate still doing all the same "stuff" that a larger wedding has. I also think its easier to listen to the professional. No need to reinvent the wheel Smiley smile

No get annouced, it makes it fun for the guests too hearing them welcome the new Mr and Mrs for the first time in the reception. Kind of gets the mood going Smiley smile

J&B, I've only ever seen the bride & groom announced when they first show up. Sometimes this is right before dinner. Sometimes this is during the cocktail hour. But always when they first arrive.

Shannon, to elaborate on my earlier statement, I think you two should be purposefully 5-10 mins late to make sure everyone else is there and get announced!
