The bride wore black?

TrashKitty, on September 21, 2017 at 6:17 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 87

Any brides out there who wore black or any other non traditional color? I've never pictured myself wearing white or cream as I am goth, my family doesn't expect anything less, but FH family wants more traditional even though we're having an "until death" themed Halloween time wedding.

I found my gray ballgown on clearance at David's bridal! My mother talked me into a white dress for the ceremony, but I'm changing into the gray dress for the reception.

I saw a corset type gown that the top was black and the skirt was cream, and I think it's going to be the happy medium for everyone.

What matters is what you and your FH want.

I am also a goth kid at heart. My FH and I actually met online on a goth SN. Anyway, I didn't plan on wearing a light color. I was going to do magenta, or burgundy, or slate. But, alas, I tried on a cream gown and fell in love. It's not a generic wedding dress, and it's totally bad ass. I just put my darkness into the rest of the wedding...and the music!

Oh man I really wanted a color gown. I was obsessed with a grey ball gown but for my dates and location I would have been soaked in sweat. Wear what makes you happy and if that's black go for it! Also don't shy away from white/ivory dresses some (ask ahead of time) designers are willing to dye fabrics for you

I won't say I'm a goth but half of my clothes are black . Anyway, I almost bought this gown but it didn't have my size so I opted to a champagne colored one instead. Good luck with finding your perfect dress!

    Aw thanks guys!

Ephelba wore a beautiful black gown and a newer bride here has a black gown Ragin? reagin? I never remember! But it's lovely as well!

So yes. Several of us have worn or are wearing black. I actually didn't get ant push back on mine. But I know some people do. I just celebrated my one year and I have no regrets. (which I know people have mentioned. But that's more to do about who you are than a color.)

Historically women didn't actually wear white, it was popularized by Queen Elizabeth (the first) and really that's fairly recent in the world of history.

Traditionally you wore your 'Sunday finest' which was the nicest dress you owned... And I can promise you... It wasn't white.

Technically I wore two black gowns. This is the lord and Taylor gown I wore for our photo shoot... 110$ worth ever fucking penny. Sorry for the spam. I'm on mobile. So one at a time it is!

I knew I wanted color in my dress and this is what I ended up going with. I don't think there's anything wrong with a black dress if that's what you like!

ETA- y'all are rocking the black dresses!

I hate to be a nerd, but it was Queen Victoria. Liz I never got married lol

ETA: I think non traditional white gowns need to make a comeback. they're always gorgeous!!

Also the Western world is one of the only places that wears white. Lots of countries like India insist on colored gowns!
