Thank you's for bridal shower gifts before shower

Susana, on September 27, 2017 at 7:34 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 6

My bridal shower isn't until the 14th of this month but I've been getting notifications of gifts that were purchased on the registry... I don't know if I should be texting the people after getting a notification that they bought something for me... Or if I should wait until after the bridal shower to send a formal thank you card. Advice?

Well, you haven't actually received the gift yet, so no, don't thank them for it. Gifts are traditionally supposed to be surprises.

Wait until after the shower! As a guest I wouldn't want to know that you already know what I wrapped for you! That takes all the fun out of it.. as a bride I don't want to know what people gift us before the wedding that's like knowing everything under the tree not as much fun to open a present you already know what it is.

Thank you notes are sent after you receive the gift, whether it is delivered to your home or received at the shower.

I would turn off the notifications and don't send thank you cards until after you receive the gift.

This is happening to me right now. I've received two from family members who can't make it to the shower. I sent both a message that said something like "hey! Just wanted to say thank you for the thoughtful gift. Formal thank you's will go out after the shower. But I just wanted to let you know that I received said thoughtful gift and we so appreciate it!" Both appreciated it and said oh good I worried if you got it or not. I always worry about that stuff so I thought it was polite just to at least let them know it arrived safely.

ETA: both of mine were not wrapped gifts, they were straight from target and I assumed it was something I ordered so I just opened them.
