Thank you notes

Mattie, on May 13, 2021 at 11:02 PM Posted in Planning 0 11
Hello everyone! Just wondering advice on a topic. We are having a destination wedding. Most guests are sending us registry items or gifts delivered to our home. Do we send out thank you cards right away, or wait until post wedding?

I am leaning towards sending them out people as we will see the guests at our wedding. Just wondering what the proper etiquette is!
Thanks Smiley smile

I would send the thank you notes as you receive the gifts.

Hi Mattie! We sent thank you notes when we opened the gift and if received before the wedding, sent them out ahead of the wedding ❤️

It's always best to send out thank you cards ASAP. Part of the purpose is that the giver knows that the gift got to you in 1 piece. Also, this way you get them done sooner rather than later.

Anything we got before/around the shower, I made sure we sent thank you cards within a month of the shower. (I think we actually got them done within a week.)

Anything after that, we tracked, and then did all thank you cards within a month of the wedding.

...Apparently this made my friends feel badly, because some of them never managed to do thank yous. (My late Grammy was crossing her arms at me in my head. I couldn't NOT.)

I would do it as you receive them. So glad to heard you’re doing them, I feel like it’s a lost art. I am still waiting on thank you cards from weddings that I went to 5 years ago. 😂

I would do them as you receive them because 1) it will let the gifter know their gift arrived safely and 2) it means less work for you to do later, after the wedding, when you'll probably be fried and ready to have wedding planning and all things with it behind you.

We're sending thank you cards as soon as we receive the gift so the giver knows we got it. I've sent wedding presents to people and never got a card and am now wondering if they ever got it in the first place!

Send them out as you receive gifts! It lets the person know you got the gift and it makes your life a lot easier post-wedding when you have fewer of them to write.

Definitely send as you receive - guests who send them early want the reassurance that you got them!
