Thank you notes - How long is too long?

JennV, on October 23, 2017 at 2:21 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 19

I'm planning on using one of our pro-pictures for our thank you cards. We were lucky enough to have a sneak peek and I could definitely use one of these pictures but really would like to see all my options before ordering. I believe we will get the all of our pictures back by mid November (we got married 10/7/17). What is the etiquette for sending out thank you cards and how long is too long?

Thank you notes should be sent asap. Waiting for a photograph, then waiting for your order of notes to come in, could make it difficult to get them out by the absolute deadline of 3 months. It is understandable that you want to share a picture of the wedding, but the reality is most of those pics will end up in the recycling bin, often the same day it is received. Your guests already have their own pics they took at the wedding.

Yeah we aimed for getting them all done within 3 months.

ETA: And I agree with Muriel. I didn't think paying for cards with our picture was worth it when people are just going to throw them away. I bought generic cards on amazon.

We got ours done in just over 3 months. our photographer gave us a couple of sneak peek options for photo cards and we just went with one of them. @muriel's right, it doesn't really matter what photo you use on it as long as it's relatively flattering, haha. better to just get them done and checked off your list.

Do you mean how long is too long to wait to send them, or how long length-wise should each thank-you be?

The longer you wait, the less enthusiasm you'll have for them. Do them ASAP. I wouldn't wait for a photo....

@Celia's right!! my first batch was so much more heartfelt than the last ones!! better to do it while all those lovely feelings are still fresh in your mind.

@EM How long to wait to send them.

I am itching to get them out so I probably won't wait anyway and I do love all of our sneak-peeks.

I wouldn't wait. I am still working on ours and my enthusiasm is waning! Do it to it, girl!

Don't wait for the photo. We are date twins and ours are done. Feels great. Use a pro pic as a Christmas/Holiday card!

Instead of waiting on the pictures, invest in some really nice personalized stationary. FH and I just got ours and we can't wait to use them!

I already bought thank you cards off basicinvite.com

They're holiday themed and say "thank you from myname & FHname" on the front"

We might include a wallet sized photo of us from the wedding with the card, but I don't think we'll get our pro photos back in time, so I might just use a photo a guest takes on their phone and get them printed cheap to stuff. It'll be tiny anyway Smiley smile

I figure, since they're holiday themed, it'll force me to send thank you cards out right after the wedding!! Smiley tongue

I was going to ask the same thing. For those that gave us cash for the honeymoon, we are going to send them post cards from Europe that they helped us out with. Is that ok? We are going for Christmas, so we thought maybe we can get cards at the christmas markets and send them from there.

I would do a sneak peek photo. I will say that I got married in January, and my thank you photo is still on the fridge of a few friends, and a few family members at the houses I've been to this year. I got mine done in about 3 months after.

We plan to do the same n our photographer contract says we should have our pics within 30 days. I already have our template saved n will order as soon as we can. I think as long as you send them out within 2-3 months...you are fine.

Three weeks maximum. This is about your gratitude, not about pictures of you.

How long will your photos take? We got ours within six weeks and immediately sent out an order for them so we could do a pro postcard and will be within the three month mark. I’d say if it’s not dangerously over three months, like eight, why not?

I bought ours off of Amazon last night, my husband (still want to say fiance) didn't want to use a picture... but it saved is like $150 so I shouldn't complain! I'll be printing some pictures to put inside Christmas cards for family.

    Thanks for the advice!

I just got a thank you card from a wedding I attended in June...2016!! LOL! You have a little time in my opinion.
