Thank you notes for cash gifts

PressTheStarKey, on October 30, 2016 at 8:50 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 20

How do you word a thank-you note for a cash gift? It seems crass to say "thank you for the cash." I'm considering using "monetary gift" as terminology, but even that seems a bit off.

Maybe include what you'll use it for

At least your sending thank you notes. I gave a card at a wedding and never recieved a Thank you! And believe me it was a considerable amount too, and I was off for 6 weeks due to having eye surgery.

I usually get "Thank you so much for your generous gift!" I think you can leave it at that or add what you will use it towards.

Just call it "generous gift" and say what you'll use it for. You don't have to say money. Money is still a gift and they know they gave you money.

Anytime I've received cash, I put something along the lines of "thank you for the generous gift. I (we) are saving up for/looking forward to purchasing a _____ and this will help so much"

We said "Thank you for making our wedding day so special. Your generous gift is appreciated. It will come in handy when we start house hunting."

I like generous, kind, thoughtful as an adjective to gift vs just gift alone. Thank you for your gift. It doesn't read as well as thank you for your thoughtful gift.
