Thank You for money wording?

Hannah Joy, on July 11, 2016 at 3:45 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 11

What are some ways to word a thank you note to someone who has given you money? Do you simply say thank you for the money? For their generosity? Do you say what you plan to use it for? I am so grateful but I don't know how to word it. Thoughts?

We used something like this "thank you for the monetary gift, we really appreciate it". Hope that helps!

Just thank them for their gift. I don't think you have to specify if it is monetary or not.

We bought a house a few months before our wedding, so that was an easy general thing to say as a "use". Mine read something like,

"Dear Aunt Sue, thank you so much for your generous gift! It was very thoughtful of you to come to our wedding and help get us started. We recently bought a house and this will help us get it set up. Thanks again for your kindness!"

You don't have to be super specific, but stating some sort of goal/general use is a nice touch to make it feel more personal.

Working on thank you notes right now also. Wording it "thank you for your generous gift. It is much appreciated".

Maybe I tried too hard, but I tried to be more specific "Thank you for your generous gift! It will go towards the new mattres we are looking forward to getting! "

We wrote "Thank you for your generous gift." At this point I wrote that we'll be using towards buying a house, because we are. DH didn't want to include that so he didn't.

After that we wrote something about how much we appreciated that they were able to come and share our special day, and something specific like how I enjoyed our photobooth picture together, or I'll always remember you were the first one to call me "Mrs. W---" etc.

Thank you for thinking of us as we start our journey as husband and wife. Your generous gift was greatly appreciated. We are looking forward to seeing you again soon. Thank you for helping us start out as a few family.

I did "thank you for your generous gift" and then I tried to do something personal about the wedding day. Like mentioning if they were all the dance floor all night with me and how fun it was.

We used "Thank you for your generosity" or "Thank you for your monetary gift" then said how we could not wait to put it to good use while working on our new apartment. Something to make it more personal
