Thank you cards

Taylor, on August 2, 2020 at 4:53 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 9
Hey y’all! So we’ve received gifts and money for the wedding already. Our day is August 16th. Do you think it’s okay for me to wait until I get some of my wedding pictures back to order thank you cards So that I can put pictures on them? I don’t want plain old cards lol. I don’t know if it’s rude to wait or not. I just don’t want to order two different sets of thank you cards (one for early givers and one for wedding DAY givers). But obviously if that’s more proper to do, than I’ll do it. TIA ❤️

Do you know what the turnaround time for your wedding pictures will be? We sent thank you cards without pictures because I didn’t want to wait 3 months to send thank yous.

I would send out thank you cards as you get receive gifts. Not only will it mean you have fewer to write after the wedding, but it will also let your guests know you received them. I still remember a gift I sent directly to a couple before their wedding and to this day, I don’t know if they received it because I didn’t get a thank you note (not saying you won’t eventually send one).

Unless your photographer is going to send you a sneak peek within 48 hours of your wedding and you plan to use those, then I wouldn't wait. A prompt thank you is more important than a personalized card that will honestly probably end up in the trash.

Maybe use an engagement photo for thank yous. It would still be personalized but could be made in advance so you won’t have to wait for wedding pics.

Personally, I’d write them as the gifts come in and then use the picture ones for gifts from the wedding day itself. Either way, tell your photographer so they can get a shot for it that they can (hopefully) send you ahead of the other photos. You shouldn’t wait months to send thank you cards.

Most people would prefer receiving a "plain" card in the short term that lets them know their gift was received, then waiting for months after the wedding to receive a photo card. And I also know (from experience) that it's nicer for you and your (future) spouse to just send the cards as you receive gifts because it's easier to keep track of the task (gift in, card out, done!), spreads out the effort, and it one less thing to have hanging over you.
