Thank you cards?

Mary, on November 8, 2019 at 9:33 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 12

My wedding was 3 days ago and we have received cards/gifts from all of our guests. We have picked out thank you cards and I was starting to write them out when I realized I wasn't sure how to thank them for specific gifts. If someone gave us money, should we say how much they gave us or just thank them for money?

Example:

"Hi Aunt (insert name)!

Thank you so much for attending our wedding. We loved the card you gave us and really appreciate the $200 you gifted us! We hope you had lots of fun and we can't wait to see you again at Christmas!"

OR

"Hi Aunt (insert name)!

Thank you so much for attending our wedding. We loved the card you gave us and really appreciate the money you gifted us! We hope you had lots of fun and we can't wait to see you again at Christmas!"

Which one sounds better to you guys?

I would just say “thank you for the generous gift” instead of using the dollar amount or the word money.

When we received cash or a check I simply phrased it as a "generous gift" or stated we will put their gift to good use in our home/on our honeymoon. We didn't specify any dollar amounts even with gift cards.

I wouldn't use the word "money" in the card. I agree with above to say generous gift. You can detail what you'll use it for like honeymoon, future house, savings, etc.

I totally agree with everyone else. I would thank them for attending and for the generous gift. Then say, it will help us for a remodel, new home, future plans etc.

We also went with the "generous gift" wording in our thank you cards.

I am writing thank you cards for my bridal shower and I found some websites with information. They give you advice on what to write and how to word the thank you cards.

I write something along the lines of "thank you for your generous gift" instead of writing the dollar amount Smiley smile

I just mentioned being thankful for the generous gift when we were gifted money.

Three sentences sounds abrupt and childish. Try for four, at least. You might mention your plans to put their lovely gift toward a new XYZ, for example.

“Thank you for the generous gift” don’t reference an amount, or even “money” in general. “Generous gift” is perfect.

My wedding was three weeks ago. I'm waiting on my thank you notes to arrive in the mail, but I plan to just say something like "thank you for everything" that way those who gave money, a gift card, a gift or helped out in some way all get thanked
