Thank you cards timing?

MelanieM, on August 3, 2014 at 8:46 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 10

I'm married!!! And honeymooned!!! BAM to come as soon as I have access to a computer.

I'm wondering when we should send our thank you cards. I'm assuming as soon as possible but should I wait for professional pictures or just buy cards from Michaels so I can get them out quicker?

I think 2 months is the "etiquette appropriate" time frame. At least that is what I have read and will be shooting for. Been to 2 wedding this year and didn't get a thank you yet from either one (one was only in June, but the other was in October).

We just bought cards that matched our theme/color scheme. I've only gotten preview photos from our photographer with her turnaround being 6-8 weeks so we didn't wait. DH did them with me and it took less than an hour.

Unless you can ask your photographer for one early photo for the cards (we did in our contract), I'd go ahead and send thank you cards without them. People remember when they don't receive thank you cards within two months or so.

I think it's fine. I mean as long as it isn't a crazy amount of time that has gone by. Our wedding was June the 20th and I have mine all addressed and stamped ready to be mailed out tomorrow. I think if you spent all that money on your pro pics and you want to use them as your thank you cards, then waiting a little bit of time is fine. If it takes a month or two, people will see you used your pro pics and assume you had to wait to get them back. From a guest stand point, I would rather wait to see a personalized thank you with pics from your wedding rather than some generic one from a corporate craft shop. Anyone who tells you can't wait for your pro pics and you have to send out regular cards is just being silly.

Buy the cards now to get them out quickly. I wrote all ~200 of our thank you notes in the two days after the wedding. You can do it!

I would do it now. Usually your photographer will have a link on their website with a password so you and your guests can view your proofs. I would get the cards now and either include the info to get to the proofs at the bottom of the card or have the web address and password printed on a business card to include so that guests can view photos of the day.

I plan on sending them immediately. It really annoys me when I go to a wedding and don't get a thank you note for like a month after. It's probably just me though, since my mom practically hammered it into my brain that everytime I get any gift I must immediately send a thank you. Lol

Plan to send ASAP...do you have a fun photo from your engagement? You can make some quick Thank you Post Cards at Vistaprint for super cheap (especially right not as things are on sale)..and order more if you need more thank you cards or get the prof photos back. Smiley smile
