Anyone openly discuss bridesmaid expenses? I am not able to foot the bill for my bridesmaids I want them to know its not free to be a bridesmaid (buying the dress, (shoes, accessories of their choice that sort of match the dress since who has wedding shoes in their closet not I?!) helping with the shower etc...) but I don't want to scare them off either. Thoughts did anyone openly discuss costs with their bridesmaids?

The only thing my bridesmaids will be responsible for is their dresses. They can where whatever shoes they want and if they want their hair and makeup done that's their choice if not they can do it themselves. They are not obligated to plan you a shower or anything like that.

What I did from the get-go was create an online survey and and asked all my bridesmaids to fill it out. On the survey, I broke it down my sections. Dress, shoes, make up, hair, etc. I put in different budget types and accommodated the majority. My results: less than $100 for bridesmaids dress, they pick their own shoes, they choose if they want their hair and makeup professionally done. It's important to get your bridesmaids' feedback. Weddings are expensive, no mater what your role is. So trying to accommodate them is a good thing.
