Teachers taking time off for their wedding??

I too am a teacher. However, I am a tenured teacher. That said, my principal is pretty easy going when it comes to teachers/staff requesting days to be out of the building. The only time she is a little more strict is during our state testing.

We also get 3 personal days to use every year. This is available to all staff (tenured or non-tenured). So, that option is there for us.

I will be getting married on a Saturday and will be taking off that Friday and Monday. I plan on putting my request in as soon as school begins-since I have a September wedding date.

In regards to the honeymoon, that'll be during Spring break or over the summer.

I'm a teacher and I almost picked the same date as you but I would like to have a honeymoon after our wedding. Honestly, I think if you are close to your principal and explain to them now, or relatively soon, the situation they will probably give you the ok. Most of the time you need to send a request to HR for an extended amount of time off. This also depends on the number of sick and personal days you've accumulated. You might be forced to use any personal time before they allow you to use sick days.

Also, beware-April is typically state testing time.

My district gives us 10 days. 5 personal, 5 sick, but we are not allowed to take off 2 consecutive days unless we are sick.

Does your FH have vacation time assigned to him or is he free to take it when he wants? Because he might be able to take it the following Christmas (2018) when you're off as well.

I would be hesitant to take that many days being untenured (and even tenured with certain admins) Check your contract. Ours allows for two personal days. You can also take off for a wedding for 5 days but it's unpaid.

Depending on where you are, our state requires teachers to be notified of renewal by May 15th so you are taking a bunch of days right around renewal time. I took Friday and Monday as personal days. My admin insisted I take Tuesday as a sick day so I lucked out. We are taking our honeymoon in August.

My fh is a teacher and we planned our Destination wedding during spring break and since that's only 1 week we are postponing our honeymoon until summer vacation.

Since you don't have that option the best you can do is ask for the time off and be prepared if you aren't able to get it off. I'd hope that because of your circumstances you'd get the time off for your wedding. Good luck!

I'm not a teacher but my work place follows a school scheduling since I'm kind of a school social worker. I have July off every year so that's why our wedding is in June so we can take our honeymoon in July.

I teach high school at a private school. I am not taking any days off before my wedding date, however I will be off the entire week after my wedding for my honeymoon. I will return back to work the following Monday- my administration is aware and ok with it.

In my district, you are allowed 10 personal days a year on top of breaks. I got married on a friday. I took thursday and friday off and the whole next week after the wedding.

I'm a teacher and my husband and I just got married last month a week after school was over so we were able to take two weeks to go to our honeymoon since I'm off for the summer.

I teach preschool, but we go through the summers as well, (less academic, more fun). I am taking the Wednesday-Friday off before my Saturday wedding. I'm also taking the whole week off after my wedding for a honeymoon. I'll miss my kids, but hey!

My administration has been very supportive about my wedding & the time off I need. I told them about it before I got hired, so they would know.

If you have time, you are allowed to use it. This is something I've always felt guilty about as a teacher, and I used to get guilted into taking my vacation time during times when the kids were off but staff was not (which is literally the worst time to travel). This year was the first time I took my vacation time during a regular school week to go to London. I told my boss as soon as I booked it (3 months ahead of time) and she had to create and submit a plan for how she would make sure my class was covered that whole time (a per diem sub was regular for that week).

I only get a couple of personal days per year, which I use early on (I'm Jewish, and district policy states for me to attend services for Jewish New Year I have to use personal days). Our sick days do roll over, but I never really use mine. Just to be safe we decided to get married during summer break so we didn't have to worry about it.

I'm a teacher and I planned my wedding for summer because of this and it worked out. Our district would never let us take that much time off, you'd be lucky if you called off the Friday before, Monday if you were feeling ballsy. But I think you're playing with fire trying to do all those days in a row.

Our district gives 3 days for getting married. Add 2 "Personal Necessity Days" and a weekend on each end and it's fine.

I am a teacher and getting married in November - the weekend before Thanksgiving Break starts. I am taking that Friday off (11/10) before the wedding. We are going on our honeymoon to Antigua the week of Thanksgiving break (11/18) since I only work that Monday & Tuesday (which I will be requesting 2 personal days - I have 5 personal days and 24.5 sick days banked) ... Taking it then ...over thanksgiving allowed me to only use 2 of my days without being questioned by the administration. Any more than 2 days in a row we have to provide a doctors excuse.

Maybe it's because I teach a high-needs subject (science) in a high-needs area and have my masters+30, but given the teacher shortage nationwide, I really doubt anyone is losing a contract over taking 3-4 days off. That could be totally different depending on the area, though.

As a school administrator, I think you need to speak with your principal/human resources. My district has rules about how many days can be taken off in a row, even when using personal time. You need to be upfront but realize, if the answer is no and you do it anyway, that can look bad on you.

I needed to speak with my director for time off and, even though my contract allows for administrators to take vacation whenever they want, I am only being approved for 3 days. My union will fight the issue on my behalf, but I am untenured and will not make an issue of it. I will go on the honeymoon when I am off.

Here my mom is using her 2 personal days before my Saturday wedding then back on Monday.
