Taking your birth control on the wedding day?

Pancakes, on April 30, 2014 at 9:43 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 12

I take my birth control at 9:30 pm because it seems like I'm always awake at that time. But I'm not always awake at 6:45 am like I am for work days, so I can't switch my time to the morning.

Anyways, for the evening takers of birth control - how are you handling taking your birth control on your wedding day? I'll be on the dance floor. And I have an alarm on my phone to remind me, which I won't have at the wedding. Do I just stash my pill somewhere I can find it at the venue and enlist a couple friends to help try and remind me at 9:30 pm?

Not sure how to handle that. Thanks.

Honestly, I don't think the time of day will matter that much as long as you remember to take it. Just take it in the morning or afternoon while you're getting ready and you should be ok.

I will probably have it with me in the bridal suite at the venue. I will probably tell people to let me know when it is around 9pm and them step out for a moment to take my pill.

It has info re: taking it at a different time. In most cases, as long as you can take it within 3 hours of your normal time, you should be fine.

I take mine right before bed so that's when I'll be taking it.

I'm not taking mine because we want to start having babies asap so I'm prob going off BC a week before. But either way one day isn't going to make a huge difference... I would just either take it right before everything kicks off or when you get home. You're usually still covered even if you forget for a day or two. If you are really worried consult your doctor.

Just put it next to whatever bed you'll be sleeping in that night and take it before you go to sleep.

Okay. Thanks. This venue is just a hall so there is no place for me to keep my things or have a dressing room. There is a bathroom and a coat check, but no dressing room for me. I was always told you have to take it within an hour or else it loses it's effectiveness. I know two people who got pregnant while on the pill so I'm very cautious Smiley smile We don't want kids so we still use other protection. Really I just use it so I don't have a period because I can't afford to be bed ridden 3 days each month and go through all of the stained clothes because multiple pads are not enough! I'm kind of a wreck with that which is why I take them straight through Smiley smile
I'll just plan to take it at bed time and leave it on my night stand. Thanks!

@TiffanyShay...you may want to wait until after your wedding to come off your BC. If you come off a week before, you may end up starting right before your wedding

I already quit taking mine, but what I suggest is to put it in something and leave it at the venue on your head table/sweetheart table whatever you're having and just try to keep track of the time have someone tell you when it's close or if you THINK about it and it's only 8:00 go ahead and take it. Like Barbara said, as long as you're within 3 hours you should be just fine.

You can take a pill a day late and still be protected so a few hours shouldn't be a big deal. I take mine when I wake up, which can vary on weekends.

@Aftan - I plan to talk to my doctor at my yearly in June as to what she recommends.

That time frame is not set in stone, but either way I will be going off before the wedding so we can start trying to concieve right away

You have a 6 hour grace period (as told by my OBGYN) to take it. So even if you don't take it until midnight, it will be ok. Just lave it somewhere, where you see it and remember it. I.e. nightstand, bathroom sink.
