Taking Time off For the Wedding

RJmargo, on January 12, 2016 at 10:07 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 61

I plan to request time off for the wedding and the honeymoon early next month. I'm debating between taking the whole week of the wedding off or just taking off Wed-Friday before the wedding. We are going on our honeymoon right after the wedding for two weeks. Some of this time I'm taking off will be unpaid.

How much time did you take off before the wedding? Was it long enough? Do you wish you had taken more time off?

My company gives me three days before or after the wedding. I'm taking Wed-Fri so I don't have to use vaca days until after the wedding for the honeymoon.

I'm thinking I'll take the Wednesday-Friday off before, as well as the following Monday.

I'm taking Wednesday to Friday off the week of the wedding. A whole week off for the honeymoon (leaving Monday coming back Sunday) and then a Monday off to get my life/apt back in order!

I'm taking a half day Thursday and I'm taking off the Friday before the wedding. I will be off all the next week for the honeymoon and then I took off that Monday after the honeymoon to just relax with our Furbaby before going back to work

I plan to take at least a week before off (I work as a trail guide for a riding stables. I always have a farmers tan and am covered in cuts and bruises, need time to heal haha). We will be going on our honeymoon after the wedding so returning will depend on how long we choose to honeymoon

I'm taking the Wed-Fri off before, then time after for the HM and a few days to just relax at home. (I had to decide early, taking 15 days off is extremely unusual in retail and I had to get it approved by a few people.)

So for me the Friday before my wedding is a half day and the Monday after is a holiday. With that said, as of now my plan is to take Wed-Fri the week before the wedding, we then also leave the next day for our 2 week honeymoon so I'll be gone from work for little less than 3 weeks. My boss has said that he honestly doesn't expect me in at all the week of my wedding so we're planning on working like I won't be in but I am going to try to. DF took off the full 3 weeks (he has to take full weeks with his job). I will say I have a pretty generous PTO policy at work, and have been then for almost 5 years so I get 25 days plus sick so the time isn't a huge issue. More of just not wanting to be OOO for that long. Or use up all my day's before the end of the year, though, again my boss is amazing and could really care less if I had to "work from home" or take extra days as long as my work gets done.

Lol sorry I just realized that ended up being much more long winded than I intended or than you probably wanted of an answer

So we live in Chicago and the wedding is in Metro Detroit and I'm in a friends wedding 3 weeks before mine. Since FH and I will have just moved to the burbs I won't have a job yet and my semester will not have started yet, I plan to do an extended visit from the last weekend in July through our wedding. My little brother (7) is going to be so excited to have me home for that long, I'm really looking forward to it! That being said, FH will probably work that Monday and Tuesday but drive in after work, so he will take a Wednesday - Wednesday vacation so we can go on a mini moon. Unfortunately, we have to wait until my winter break to take our honeymoon.

We will be off the week before and the week after. There is no way I will be useful to function at work.

I only work Monday - Thursday which made it a bit easier. I took Wednesday and Thursday off before my wedding. So I'll be working Monday and Tuesday of my wedding week. I took the whole following week off, and then Monday and Tuesday of thr week after that. Initially I was going to take the full week of my wedding and the full week after. But I split it up so that we can have some time to relax after getting back from our honeymoon.

My mom is taking off the whole week so she can get a lot of stuff done at the venue (we have the whole week with the farm) and I will be taking wednesday-friday off...wedding is saturday. I thought about taking the whole week, but I think I would go stir crazy not having some time out of the house. I am also doing bridal make up for a friday afternoon wedding the day before my own....that was probably poor planning on my part, but I think it will be fun too. I'll go straight from there to my rehearsal!

I took the week off and seemed to need every minute of it. It was a luxury, and a very enjoyable one. Without the week, I think I would have been too anxiety ridden to sleep at night and to enjoy the day of. But it seems a lot of you did great with Wed--Fri. Kudos to you! I needed the week.

My work still hasn't figured out what I'll be allowed to do yet. Definitely taking Friday off, but hoping to take as much as the whole week before off. It wouldn't be a problem, but we have a GIANT event with a client the Thursday before & I might not be able to miss it. That being said FH is taking the week before & the week after, so hopefully I'll be able to do the same.

I think I'll do a half day Wednesday, then all of Thursday and Friday. If I feel too stressed, I might take all of Wednesday but will play it by ear.

In retail as well, they do not like multiple days off. I'm taking the Thursday/Friday before. And a week and 2 days after. So 5/5- 5/17.
