Taking in a lace wedding dress - how much were you able to have it taken in?

KM, on September 7, 2012 at 5:06 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11

I have lost a bit of weight since I ordered my dress (bridal size 12) and am now a bridal size six. I would LOVE to lose another 10 lbs before my fitting. For ladies with lace dresses, how much were you able to take them in? When I ordered my dress they said they would be able to take it in 2 inches on each seam.

I am freaking out! Thanks ladies!!!

Altering a dress from a size 12 to basically a size 4 is going to be incredibly tricky. Please make sure you go to an incredibly reputable seamstress, she's basically going to cut your dress in half. When is the wedding? Do you have a lot of time?

I am having it altered through the salon I purchased it from. They are aware how big it is and say they only need 5 weeks for the alterations. They don't want to start too early since weight fluxuates so much.

Cate's had her dress taken in about an inch on either side. The dress was a size 4. She had a lot of work done by our seamstress extraordinaire, Leslie, at Xquizit Dzigns. Everything turned out just fine.

Is it a seamstress from Alfred Angelo or DB? I have had issues with both and AA and DB do not take "responsibility" for mistakes. AA totally skrewed up the sashes for the BM dresses.

    Good luck!

It's a local bridal salon, not AA or DB (thank goodness).

Labake you are making be feel much better. I have budgeted $400 and I don't need a hem.

P.S. The only reason I had to order a 12 vs a 10 was because of my boobs...so I suppose it could be worse.

I got my dress at the running of the brides, it was basically falling off ( I had vision). I would stop trying to lose weight this point and just maintain. Also a nice padded bra can fill a dress nicely Smiley winking

    K.M....I agree, thank goodness.

I am sure you will be able to come under that budget. How many layers do you have? Cate's gown was Dupoini silk, then a tulle layer and then the lace.
