swimming with engagement ring on?

Summerbridejen, on July 7, 2014 at 9:58 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 33

I read somewhere not to wear engagement ring in pool and I have a pool party tomorrow. I would take it off and put in my bag but there are a few people that I don't know and feel funny just leaving a 9K ring somewhere....I can leave it home but wanted to show it off to some that haven't seen it yet...can you wear ring in a pool with chlorine?

You should be fine. It can be cleaned when needed but shouldn't have any problems. I wear mine in the pool, the lake and the water park.

I wear my ring all the time, including to swim. The chlorine wont hurt your diamond and if your ring is made of gold or platinum (which cannot oxidize) you are OK .

I teach swimming lessons and therefore, I'm in chlorine a lot. I take mine off when I'm instructing. I have worn it a couple of times as I forgot and had no issues. As long as it's not a regular occurrence, it should be fine. Also I see patrons wearing theirs all the time in the pool.

I was just going to make a post about this but at the beach! I went to the beach yesterday and i just couldnt leave it on, i didnt want to get oil, sand or anything on it! so i took it off and put it in the box ( i bring the box everywhere with me lol) and put it in my bag, thank god it was kinda chilly out so i did not go in the water and did not have to leave the bag alone. But IMO i would not wear it in the pool or to the beach!

If the water is cold, your ring may be more likely to slip off, so just remember to keep an eye on it so that you can spot if its missing right away.

I would be careful about it slipping off. I always leave mine at home when we go kayaking or going in water. Would you be able to lock it in the car if you wanted to take it off?

I'm pretty cautious and won't swim with mine. I would leave it home to be on the safe side. You can show it off later.

I don't wear mine when I go swimming or participate in water activities. In fact, even DH took his off when we were on our honeymoon at the pool since his is slightly loose and was afraid of losing it in the pool.

I'm with January. I'll be more afraid of it slipping off. Do you have a little box to put it in while swimming? I will not simply put it in the purse but rather in a box inside the purse. I once put mine in a purse pocket while doing some shores outside my FH house. Long story short, we had to get a metal detector and were lucky enough to find the ring after several hours. You can keep an eye on the purse and tell a good friend to do the same.

I wear mine when I swim in my pool and also at the beach. It's better for me to leave it on than to take it off and lose it.

I wouldn't wear it in a lake or on the beach, but if it's just a chlorinated pool I don't see a problem as long as it fits snuggly.

I've been a swimmer my entire life; usually 5-6 times a week, and yes, even a chlorinated or brominated pool will damage your ring over time. But, if you're only going every once in awhile, you should be okay- I would be more concerned though, about it slipping off- if it gets stuck in a filter, it could get very damaged or be impossible to get back, depending on the pool.

A friend's friend got married in Cancun and they went swimming that afternoon and his ring fell off in the water. They spent over 2 hours with a group of people looking for it. They found it (it was in a cave so it was dark, but confined somewhat). So I would be hesitant.

I get told different things from everyone. The first manager at the jewelry store gave me a LONG list of places to not wear my ring. She said take your ring off any time you are at home, do not wear it at work, washing hands, showering, eating, working out, swimming, traveling, etc. But the other manager said don't wear it in a hot tub or pools because the chemicals "pit" the gold, and it moreso pits white gold than yellow gold.

So I really have no idea. Everyone says different.

I only take mine off to shower and I swim all summer long. Mine is fine. It wouldn't hurt to take it off if you have someplace safe to put it though!

I would be terrified of it slipping off in the pool. I'd leave it at home.

I would be more worried that it would fall off underwater. My ring gets loose when wet and comes off easily. So I always take it off before swimming for this reason.

Your ring will be fine if you swim with it if it is all diamond. If it has another other type of gem stone do not swim in it.

Just be careful not to lose it as it slips off.

I would never suggest putting it in a box or in your bag....there are SO many people who will steal things out of someone's bag especially if it's in a ring box.

I wrk for a jewelry store....the thought of someone leaving their ring in a bag somewhere in public gives me anxiety.

I take it off beforehand just for fear of loosing it.

It's totally fine in the pool if it's real diamonds and real gold- which I assume it is.

Often when people are swimming they don't realize the ring fell off their hand- that's why you would hear that you shouldn't wear it.

I leave mine on all of the time. I've been in the pool and ocean with it and had no problems, but I did get it resized so it fits like a glove. I'm more concerned about taking it off and losing it somehow. When I was young our house was broken into and my Mom's engagement ring was stolen even though it was hidden in a very random spot, so I'm a little paranoid I guess Smiley smile Even though it is insured, I would be devastated if I ever lost it.
